Alabama Women Get Verbal Commitment from Cameron Brown

The University of Alabama have added another member to their 2015-16 recruiting class, getting a verbal from Cameron Brown of Lakeside Swim Team in Kentucky. Brown will join an Alabama team that has been on the rise in the SEC over the past few years, and they also placed in the top 30 at NCAAs for the first time last season.

When looking at the impact Brown could have for Alabama, she’s had her most recent success in the middle distance free events. At the 2015 Kentucky High School Regional Championships, she posted a personal best 4:57.84. She then went on to place 4th in that event at the Kentucky High School State Championships. She coupled that with a 5th place finish in the 200 free, improving from her 2014 States performance where she was 5th in the 500 and 6th in the 200.

This past summer, she posted her first top 10 finish at an NCSA Juniors competition. Her 2:04.54 in the 200 meter free was good for 10th place overall. She also swam into the top 25 in the 400 meter free (4:23.64) and 400 meter IM (4:58.26).

Brown’s Top Times:

Event Time
50 free 24.12
100 free 51.63
200 free 1:50.85
500 free 4:57.54
200 IM 2:03.60
400 IM 4:26.94

Aside from the freestyle events, Brown also shows promise in the IMs. Her personal bests sit at 2:03.60 in the 200 and 4:26.94 in the 400. When she arrives in Tuscaloosa, she’ll find a solid training partner in free and IM specialist Karolina Szczepaniak, a redshirt sophomore. Szczepaniak’s strengths are also in the 500, 200 IM, and 400 IM.
