The 2026 Women’s MAC Championships kicked off in Ohio last night, with Akron taking an early lead over the competition.
The Zips turned up the heat early on, bringing home the championship title in the 200 medley relay with a record-breaking performance. Felicia Klintemar [24.35], Claire Cox [26.94], Callie Parkes [23.30] and Ada Szwabinska [21.63] threw down a time of 1:36.22, narrowly breaking the conference, meet and pool records in the event by just .06. All three records previously stood at 1:36.28, set by Akron back in 2019.
Akron also walked away with the victory in the 800 free relay, thanks to the team of Helena Lalkovic [1:46.16], Brienne Trumpower [1:49.69], Elle Couture [1:48.27] and Hannah Trainer [1:48.34], who posted a time of 7:12.46 to secure the gold.
Buffalo sits in 2nd on the team standings after securing the runner-up spot in the 800 free relay (7:15.70) and a 4th-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:39.96).
Meanwhile, Ohio placed 3rd in the 200 medley relay (1:37.61) and 4th in the 800 free relay (7:17.76), which was good enough to land them 3rd overall in the team standings after day 1.
Competition continues today with five events on the lineup, including the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 1-meter diving and 400 medley relay.

Let’s Go Zips!!!
