Adam Zapatka Drops 10 Seconds to Win Men’s 1500 at Geneva Futures

Night 1 of the Futures Championships in Geneva, OH were underway last night. The girls competed in the 800 free and 800 free relay, while the boys competed in the 1500 free and the 800 free relay. Tylor Mathieu (Grit Aquatics) won the women’s 800 free with an 8:55.74. The race marked an 8 seconds drop from her previous best of 9:04.27. Adam Zapatka, a 17-year-old out of Charter Oaks Aquatics dropped 10.5 seconds on his way to winning the men’s 1500. Zapatka touched in 15:47.41, significantly undercutting his previous best of 15:57.99.

Phoenix Swimming ran (or swam) away with the women’s 800 free relay, clocking an 8:25.85. Megan Reich led the team off in 2:06.04, followed by Carol-lena Breiter (2:05.14), Alexis Martino (2:08.69), and Malia Amuan (2:05.98). They won the event by nearly 10 seconds. Dayton Raiders won the men’s 800 free relay. Thomas House led of in 1:56.16, followed by James Edge (1:56.74), Nathan Holy (1:54.21), and Jason Allen (1:57.71) for a final time of 7:44.82.
