Academy Bullets Distance Freestyler Andy Grever Chooses UW-Milwaukee

Andy Grever of the Academy Bullets has verbally committed to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The distance freestyler from Frankfort, IL is now a senior at Lincoln Way East High School outside of Chicago. At last season’s IHSA State Championships, Grever won the 500 free B final and also placed 15th overall in the 200 IM. Additionally, Grever managed to anchor LWE’s 200 free relay in 21.75 directly after his 500 free in prelims.

TOP TIMES (SCY)

  • 200 free – 1:44.38
  • 500 free – 4:33.67
  • 1650 free – 15:59.83
  • 200 IM – 1:54.97

Grever is a big pickup for the Panthers, who compete in the Horizon League. He’s set to score in all of his top events. In the mile, he’d have placed 5th overall, while he’d have qualified for the A final of the 500 free. Meanwhile, he’s right on the cusp of scoring in the 200 IM and isn’t terribly far off of scoring in the 200 free. Grever could also make a run at the 800 free relay, which just graduated twins Nick and Tim Halverson from the relay. The brothers also finished 1-2 in the 1650 free at the Horizon League Championships last year, meaning Grever’s strengths will be addressing an immediate gap in the Panther lineup when he gets to campus next fall.
