Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Mason Makos Swim Team’s Lyla Devlin has committed to further her academic and athletic career at the University of Connecticut beginning in the fall of 2027.
I’m so excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to further my athletic and academic career at the University of Connecticut! Thank you so much to my family, friends, and coaches. I couldn’t have gotten here without you! Special thanks to my Mako coaches, Beth, Mike, Erik, Peter, and Heather. Finally, thank you to Coach Nicole and Coach Chris for this incredible opportunity. GO HUSKIES!!🐾💙 #uconnnation
Devlin, a native of Fairfax, Virginia, and a current junior at WT Woodson High School, recently earned her highest finish of her high school career at the VHSL Class 6 State Championships in late February, when she finished runner-up in the 100 freestyle in a new career-best of 51.97. That was the first time that Devlin had competed in that event at these championships, having raced the 100 breast and 100 fly the year before (3rd and 9th, respectively), and the 200 IM and 100 breast as a freshman (4th and 5th, respectively). As a junior, she also raced the 200 IM, finishing 3rd in 2:04.70.
About two weeks later, Devlin competed at tege Potomac Valley Open Championships, where she swam a career best in all three of her individual events, including a four and a half second rime drop in the 200 breast (2:15.85), a more than two and a half second drop in the 400 IM (4:25.68), and a third of a second improvement in the 200 free (1:52.74).
In addition to those recent best times, she also boasts a fastest 200 IM time of 2:04, swum at the ISCA Fall Classic in November, as well as a 100 breast best from the VHSL Patriot District Championships in late January.
Last February, Devlin coordinated a swim-a-thon with her Mako club team to help raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s research, support, and awareness efforts.
Best Times SCY:
- 100 Breast: 1:04.14
- 200 Breast: 2:15.85
- 200 IM: 2:04.61
- 400 IM: 4:25.68
- 200 Free: 51.97
- 200 Free: 1:52.74
Devlin joins a UConn women’s program that finished 2nd at the 2026 Big East Swimming and Diving Championships in late February, finishing 234 points behind Villanova, which has won the last 13 Big East titles.
Devlin’s best times would have finished 4th in the 200 breast, 8th in the 400 IM, and 10th in the 100 breast at those Big East Championships.
She is an immediate scoring threat for the Huskies, and she still has a full season to improve before she arrives in college swimming.
Her breaststroke alone is already on a conference-championships-contending level, and her arsenal also dictates that she could expand into the freestyle and 200 IM routes if she chooses to do so.
Devlin’s versatility and competitive times in those events make this a very promising addition to a UConn team looking to escape the Villanova-sized shadow cast over the Big East.
Devlin joins Anna Mumford in the Huskies 2027 recruiting class.

UCONN is lucky to get such a great young lady as a teammate. I can’t wait to see how far she can go.
