Sara Curtis on First NCAAs: “I know that there’s still more to go for me”

2026 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships

Freshman Sara Curtis has fit right in at Virginia, carrying on their sprint legacy as she finished 2nd in the women’s 50 free last night (20.74). The Italian national seems elated with her first NCAA experience, getting energized from the swims of her teammates and the rush of competing on NCAA-winning relays. With three more years left as a Cavalier, the young swimmer is looking forward to more racing opportunities to come.

She’s going to be the next superstar at UVA and is just getting started, really. Her trajectory is remarkable, and besides she appears to be having a lot of fun. Good story that is going to get better once she refines her SCY that she’d not done before late last summer.

I’m hoping her happiness means she will stay. I remember a lot of talk about Todd bugging her until she came, and how she was gonna leave after her first season.
