- Preselection Psych Sheets
The NCAA has released the preselection psych sheets for the 2026 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships.
The sheets do not show cutlines yet, but they show the names of athletes who have at least met the NCAA ‘B’ standard in their events.
The NCAA Division II Championships has an athlete cap of 175 men (157 swimmers/18 divers) and 205 women (183 swimmers/22 divers), and athletes are eligible to swim four individual races, rather than the three we see in the Division I level. The DII meet also sponsors the 1000 freestyle as a championship race, and they are the only NCAA division to do so.
Last year’s NCAA championships saw 13 new NCAA DII records set, and Agata Naskret and Jacob Hamlin are both back this season after breaking multiple records last year.
Naskret, who transferred to the University of West Florida after last season, broke her own NCAA record in the 100 backstroke in November, swimming 51.26 to take three tenths off the 51.52 she swam at the 2025 NCAAs.
Hamlin has not rebroken any of his own records this season, but he is still well within the cutline in all four of his individual events, coming in seeded 5th in the 200 free, 4th in the 500 free, and 2nd in the 1000 free and 1650 free.
There were two other individual NCAA records broken this season, courtesy of Jeremias Pock of the University of Indianapolis. At the Great Lakes Valley Championships, he set new NCAA records in the 100 breast (51.58) and the 200 breast (1:51.26). He is also entered in the 200 IM (1:43.63) and 400 IM (3:43.80) as the top seed in both.
In regards to relay records, the Nova Southeastern women have set new marks in both the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. In the 400 freestyle relay, they swam 3:17.92 at the end of January, and in the 200 freestyle relay, they swam 1:30.04 at the Sunshine State Championships.
When scoring out the psych sheets, the Nova Southeastern women are projected to score 487.5 points before any potential diving, but they did not have any divers score last season.
Colorado Mesa is coming in 2nd at 387 points, and they did have some divers score points last season, which will be huge in helping them stay ahead of Tampa’s projected 366.5 points.
Clarion is only projected to score three swimming points right now, but they had an incredibly strong diving contingent last year that helped them finish 10th overall. They will struggle to move up too far past that mark, however, without major swimming points in other areas.
Women’s Projected Top-10 Teams (no diving)
- Nova Southeastern — 487.5
- Colorado Mesa — 387
- Tampa — 366.5
- Drury — 287.5
- West Florida — 286
- UIndy — 282
- Delta State — 239
- Grand Valley State — 230
- Findlay — 214
- Simon Fraser — 142
On the men’s side, Drury is the top seed by just sixty points over the University of Indianapolis (UIndy), The Drury men will be looking to redeem themselves after they won last year’s meet, but had their title vacated for a swimmer’s positive caffeine test.
Just like in the women’s meet, the Clarion men have a very strong diving program, but they are currently projected to score zero swimming points, and all of their men sit outside the top-20, which is where last year’s cutline fell.
Men’s Projected Top-10 Teams (no diving)
- Drury — 473.5
- UIndy — 415
- Tampa — 395.5
- Colorado Mesa — 348
- Lynn University — 257.5
- McKendree — 256.5
- Findlay — 200
- Grand Valley State — 199
- Wingate — 178
- Florida Southern — 170

I have been trying to find the answer to this for a while now.. does anyone know why DII does 4 events per swimmer? Every other division does 3? Also why is DII the only division with the 1000 free?
In a sport where we are constantly discussing ways to avoid cuts and to keep “fan engagement” etc.. we should probably start with the same meet formats and meet rules..
As a Dll swimmer we like the extra event plus the 1000. It’s nice for our distance swimmers to get a little love.
Yes I think it makes sense. Most teams swim the 1000 all year in dual meets, there is no reason it shouldn’t be at every conference championship as well as all NCAAs. But still trying to see how it became just a DII thing.
The D2 format is far and away the superior format. It allows for more strategy (4 ind/3 relay? 3 ind/4 relay? etc) while allowing those that swim distance more value. D1 and D3 should switch to this format. It can be tweaked a bit (I’d personally make the 400IM and 500Fr as timed finaled events as well as the 1000/1650), but it’s far and away the better format overall.
How many will they bring per event?
Last year they took 27 women and 20 men in each event
