PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College swimming and diving programs hosted Holy Cross in dual meet action at Taylor Natatorium on Saturday, Jan. 31. The Friars honored their senior class, in what marked the final home meet of the season. The women’s team claimed a 142.5-100.5 victory over Holy Cross, while the men’s team fell by a score of 162.5-78.5.

The women’s team featured a number of impressive performances during the meet. Lauren Wagner claimed two first-place finishes in the 200-meter IM (2:29.37) and the 200-meter breaststroke (2:44.68). She also competed on the winning 400-meter medley relay team, along with Bella LombardAnnie Gathof and Natalia Robak (4:26.14). The Friars enjoyed six other first-place finishes on the day. Rory Sheridan won the 800-meter freestyle (9:28.38), Robak claimed a win in the 200-meter free (2:10.85), Rylie Foley out-paced the field in the 50-free (28.11) and Lombard won the 200-backstroke (2:23.11). In the first round of the 1-meter diving competition, Jaclyn Stadler (271.65) and Myranda Parker took second (268.20). The duo swapped places in the second round of the 1-meter dive. Parker took first with 291.68 points, while Stadler recorded 289.65 points for second place.

On the men’s side, Quinn Schwab claimed the Friars’ lone first-place individual finish in the 200-meter IM (2:10.95). Six Friars earned second-place finishes in the meet.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Devin Brindle, junior Megan Nelson and sophomore Ellie Reinhart all won individual events, but the Holy Cross women’s swimming and diving team was defeated by Providence 142.5-100.5 at Taylor Natatorium. The Crusaders fall to 2-5 on the season, while the Friars improve to 1-5 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Brindle won the 100-meter freestyle in a time of 59.96.
• Nelson took first place in the 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:25.32.
• Reinhart finished first in the 200-meter individual medley in a time of 2:26.87.
•  The 400-meter freestyle relay of senior Ainsley Nalen, junior Courtney Boghosian, freshman Clara McCarthy and Brindle also claimed first place (4:05.25).
• Crusaders to finish second in individual events included junior Kat Anticev (800-meter freestyle / 9:32.29), Boghosian (200-meter backstroke / 2:23.63), McCarthy (100-meter freestyle / 1:01.96), Nalen (400-meter freestyle / 4:37.46) and freshman Riley Van Schaften (200-meter butterfly / 2:26.57).

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman Anderson Bishop and senior Jack Greiner both won two individual events, to lead the Holy Cross men’s swimming and diving team to a 162.5-78.5 victory over Providence at Taylor Natatorium. Crusaders improve to 5-2 on the year with the win, while the Friars fall to 0-6 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Bishop won both the 400-meter freestyle (4:11.40) and the 800-meter freestyle (8:45.06).
• Greiner posted first-place finishes in the 200-meter freestyle (1:53.98) and the 200-meter butterfly (2:06.16).
• Junior Luke Parada set a school-record with his score of 316.80 in the second round of one-meter diving, while sophomore Griffin Casey won the first round of one-meter diving with a score of 298.13).
• Other Crusaders to win individual events included senior Zach Bubonovich (200-meter breaststroke / 2:23.81), junior Will Clark (50-meter freestyle / 24.18), sophomore Peter Mottolese (100-meter freestyle / 52.42) and freshman Ethan Steichen (200-meter backstroke / 2:09.72).
• In addition, Holy Cross claimed first place in both the 400-meter medley relay (3:51.84 / Greiner, Bubonvich, freshman Andrew Villani and junior Jake Thompson) and the 400-meter freestyle relay (3:32.43 / Mottolese, freshman Cole Abril, Clark and Thompson).
