HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Swimming and Diving Team earned a strong 215-81 result over Toledo on Saturday for a Senior Day win in the Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium.
The Herd took first in 15 of the 16 events over the Rockets as MU honored Mia McBride and Tatum Robinson on Senior Day.
What a great morning for our group and our two seniors, Herd Swimming and Diving Head Coach Ian Walsh said. This meet is always so special for many reasons. Being able to compete in front of our loyal fans and honor our seniors is one of my highlights each season.
Of the three wins Marshall saw three pool records go down as Maddie Emment won the 1650 Freestyle with the fourth-fastest time in program history, Lauren McNamara broke her pool record in the 200 Butterfly and Molly Warner broke her 400 IM pool record.
To break three pool records at this point in the season is where we want to be. They’ve done a great job managing the start of the semester and have performed consistently well in training. So many great performances today to choose from. Maddie Emment’s mile was exceptional, breaking a pool record, setting a personal best, is now foruth all time in Marshall History, and sits fourth in The American standings. Katie Fisher has been exploring a new event, the 200 Fly, and is now in scoring position after a lifetime best performance this morning. Lolo and Molly both rebreaking, by a huge margin, their pool records in the 200 Fly and 400 IM respectively.
Warner also won the 200 Freestyle with Emment picking up a second win on the day in the 500 Freestyle.
In Diving, Zoe Wuerdeman won on the 3m boards with Ally Humbert taking the win on 1m.
I’m very proud of our women and their performance today, Herd Diving Coach Tom Huynh said. Managing proper biomechanics and mental performance is never easy. Our women continued to persevere in our pursuit of excellence.
The Herd started the meet with a win in the 200 Medley Relay by the team of McBride, Isabelle Cameron, McNamara and Elyse Wood. Cameron also picked up an individual win in the 100 Breaststroke with Wood also winning the 100 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly.
Abby Adams came out on top in the 200 Backstroke with Loraine Cleveland Lungu winning the 50 Freestyle.
MU closed the day with a win in the 200 Freestyle Relay with Wood, Lungu, Emment and Karley Wolfgram taking the final event.
We have a little under 3 weeks until our championship meet and the team is positioned well as we move through our final preparations of the season.
