Boston University Closes Dual Meet Schedule With Sweep of Bryant

BOSTON – The Boston University women’s swimming & diving team claimed wins in the final three events to pull away from Bryant and earn a 164-136 victory on Saturday at FitRec Competition Pool in the final dual of the season.

Senior Haley Newman clinched the team victory by winning the 400-yard individual medley in the final dual of her career. Freshman Alayna Kennedy swept the diving events and classmate Molly Barber won the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Freshman Danka Ndubuisi and sophomore Abby Han also claimed wins to help the Terriers claim their fourth win since the new year and close the dual season with a record of 6-3.

The team honored its senior class following the meet.

  • 200 medley relay (Han, Miller, Busma, Barber) – 1:42.47
  • 400 free relay (Ndubuisi, Coombs, Osborn, Barber) – 3:25.47

BOSTON – The Boston University men’s swimming & diving team closed out its dual schedule on Saturday afternoon with a 218-81 victory over Bryant at FitRec Competition Pool.

Senior Tony Ponomarev swept the backstroke events in his final home dual while sophomore Charlie Nenchev was victorious in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle. Seven other Terriers claimed one win apiece to help the team extend its win streak to four and finish the dual season with a record of 6-3.

The team honored its senior class following the meet.

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- The Bryant University Women’s Swimming and Diving Program fell to Boston University by a final score of 164-136. The Bulldogs will close out the regular season at home next Friday hosting the University of Bridgeport.  

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Megan Beasley broke the school record in the 3-meter dive, compiling 315.90 points and finishing second. Beasley also placed second in the 1-Meter dive with 289.58 points.
  • Clara Steen, Jocie Niemczyk, Sofia Doersch, and Marcella Figueroa helped the Bulldogs finish second with a time of 1:42.48 in the 200 yard medley relay.
  • Makayla Pearce (10.17.32) and Aurelie Honsberger (10.23.19) finished first and third respectively in the 1,000 yard free.
  • Katherine Bailey (1:51.86) and Jill Carline (1:53.12) placed first and third in the 200 yard free.
  • Steen rounded out the top three in the 100 yard back with a mark of 56.79.
  • Niemczyk (1:03.42) and Megan Diamond (1:06.24) placed first and third in the 100 yard breaststroke.
  • Ruby Tonelli (1:57.68) and Amanda Witkus (2:02.01) finished first and third in the 200 yard fly.
  • Kaitlyn Archambeault finished second in the 50 yard free with a time of 24.06.
  • Carline took third in the 100 yard free with a time of 52.28.
  • Niemczyk won the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:17.60.
  • Bailey (4:54.27) and Pearce (5:03.69) took the first and third spots in the 500 yard free.
  • Ruby Tonelli (53.32) and Ava Mustacciuolo (55.92)finished first and third in the 100 yard fly.
  • The Bulldogs had two teams go 2-3 in the 400 yard free.


UP NEXT: 
The Bulldogs return home for their final home meet of the year, hosting the University of Bridgeport on Friday, Jan 30. Start time is set for 5:00 p.m. Diving events will be held at Brown University.

  • Christopher Buonocore broke the school record in the men’s 1-meter dive, finishing second and logging a score of 340.58 points. Buonocore also won the men’s 3-meter dive, compiling 331.28 points.
  • Roman San Juan, Aiden Trenery, Clinton Cupples, and Calix Hammett powered Bryant to a third place finish in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:30.77.
  • Raymond Stelmark placed third in the 1000 yard free with a time of 9:33.16.
  • Zach Proulx took third in the 100 yard back, finishing in 50.54.
  • Trenery took third in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 56.20.
  • Proulx finished third in the 200 yard back with a time of 1:50.89.
  • Trenery swam to a 2:01.87 mark in the men’s 200 yard breaststroke, finishing second.
  • Tim Andrews won the men’s 100 yard fly with a mark of 49.10.
  • Trenery placed third in the men’s 400 IM with a time of 4:02.89.
  • The Bulldogs took home third in the 400 yard free relay as T. Andrews, N. Andrews, Proulx, and Honsberger combined for a time of 3:06.02.
