Six Pool Records Fall as Vermont Catamounts Defeat Siena on Senior Day

BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Vermont Swimming and Diving team set six pool records Saturday as they defeated Siena 167-114 on Senior Day from Forbush Natatorium. With the win, Vermont improved its record to 3-3 this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Catamounts kicked off their Senior Day meet setting a new pool record in the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:43.15. Natalie SchickEllie FazioJessica Drozdowski and Havana Layton earned the win for UVM.
  • Next up Amy Kenworthy continued her strong start to 2026 with a win in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:13.55.
  • In the 200 Free Anastazja Szukala won the day with a time of 1:54.13.
  • Schick set an individual record next with a pool record time of 55.69 in the 100 Back.
  • The pool records continued to fall in the next event as Fazio put her name in the record book with a time of 1:03.16 in the 100 Breast.
  • Lauren Clark and Layton rounded out a perfect start to the meet for UVM. Clark took the 200 Fly in a time of 2:05.65 and Layton took the 50 Free in a time of 24.80.
  • In 1m diving Valeria Velez Rendon won the event with 234.98 points. Robyn Tonomura-MacDonald was second with 232.43 points. Tonormura-MacDonald was also second in the 3m (240.90) this afternoon.
  • Layton earned her second individual win of the afternoon with a time of 51.91 in the 100 Free.
  • Schick also earned her second win with a time of 2:03.28 in the 200 Back.
  • Natalie Schlemmer won the 200 Breast for the Catamounts with a time of 2:18.69. It was her third win in the event this season. She also won the 200 IM for the Catamounts with a time of 2:09.28
  • First year Kara Cullinan earned her first career win, taking the 500 Free in a time of 5:05.72.
  • Jessica Drozdowski won the 100 Fly for the second time this season with a time of 59:03.
  • The individual events Saturday wrapped up with Emma Freer setting a new pool record in the 400 IM with a time of 4:27.53.
  • Saturday’s meet closed with a 200 Free Relay win for the Catamounts with a collective time of 1:35.03. Fazio set a new pool record in the 50 Free with her lead off time of 23.42. Zoe Webster, Layton and Szukala took Vermont the rest of the way also setting a relay pool record.
  • With today’s Win, Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate $100 to the Ronald McDonald House through the Cat’s Win, Community Win’s initiative. Vermont Mutual has donated over $6 Million Dollars since launching their Charitable Giving Fund in 2014.

Select Catamounts will compete next Friday, January 30 at the Middlebury Invitational hosted by Middlebury College at their on-campus natatorium. The action will be streamed live for free on NSNSports.net beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Siena Women’s Swimming & Diving turned in several strong individual and relay performances but ultimately fell to Vermont, 167–114, on Saturday afternoon in Burlington, VT.

The Saints were competitive throughout the meet, highlighted by solid showings in both diving events. Claire Donlon led Siena on the boards, placing second on the 1-meter (220.05) and winning the 3-meter dive with a score of 242.18. Sydney Murray and Bette Sherr-Garcia added key points in both diving disciplines to round out a productive day for Siena’s diving unit.

In the pool, Siena opened the meet with a pair of top-five finishes in the 200-yard medley relay, as the “A” relay team of Gabrielle RentosaKayla LombardoHope Ivanovich, and Clara Samko touched in fourth (1:53.82), followed closely by the “B” squad in fifth.

Distance swimmers GayLynn Kirn and Skylar Ricard paced Siena in the 1000-yard freestyle, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively, while Natalie Blume led the Saints in the 200-yard freestyle with a fourth-place effort.

Siena picked up momentum in the sprint events, as Clara Samko placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (24.75) and added another runner-up finish in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.47). Mea Amedio delivered a strong swim in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing second overall, while Carsyn Ide and Mary Ellen Stratman contributed points in the backstroke events.

The Saints closed the meet on a high note in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as the Siena “A” team of Mea AmedioNatalie BlumeKaci Owens, and Clara Samko finished second with a time of 1:40.60.

Siena will prepare for its final meet before the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships by hosting MAAC foe Saint Peter’s on Senior Day at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31.
