UCLA hosted Stanford for a women’s dual meet on Friday at the Spieker Aquatics Center. The Cardinal bested the Bruins in a 156-87 decision. It was a shortened event schedule, featuring just 13 total events.
Stanford’s Lucy Thomas had a big day, taking a pair of individual events. Thomas popped a 48.70 to win the 100 free before going on to stop the clock 1st in the 100 breast with a 59.33. Her 100 breast was a very strong performance, coming in roughly half a second off her season best of 58.72, which was swum at the Texas Hall of Fame Invite.
Stanford’s Torri Huske had one individual win on the day. Huske threw down a very quick 52.56 in the 100 IM. That performance stands as a career best for Huske. Huske later finished 3rd in the 100 breast with another career best of 1:00.70.
Huske also helped the Stanford ‘A’ 400 free relay to victory with a 47.85. Behind Huske, Gigi Johnson (47.50), Kayla Wilson (49.69), and Jamie Brennan (48.96) made up the rest of the team. Stanford finished in 3:14.00.
Johnson was another individual event winner on the day, posting an exceptional 50.51 to win the 100 fly. That performance marks a new career best in the event for the 21.year-old.
Another phenomenal performance came in the 50 free, where Stanford’s Annam Olasewere ripped a 21.73. That time comes in less than a quarter-second off Olasewere’s season and career best of 21.51, swum at the Texas Hall of Fame Invite. UCLA’s Jada Duncan had a very strong swim behind Olasewere, taking 2nd in 22.09. Duncan was also 2nd in the 100 fly, where she popped a new career best of 51.06.
The Stanford team of Alana Berlin (52.84), Lucy Bell (56.80), Johnson (51.02), and Olasewere (47.96) combined to win the 400 medley relay in 3:28.62. Bell’s split is, of course, noteworthy. Her career best in the 100 breast is 57.88, so Bell’s split was significant, coming in a little over a second better than her official best.
Caroline Bricker (Stanford) has a very strong swim in the 200 free, winning the race in 1:43.98. That swim was just off her season best of 1:43.36 from the Hall of Fame Invite.
UCLA had a couple big wins on the day. Rosie Murphy was excellent in the 400 IM, taking the race in 4:06.83. That performance was within 2 seconds of her career best 4:05.01, which she swam at the 2024 NCAA Championships.
The Bruins also earned a win in the 100 back, where Claudia Yovanovich clocked a 52.17.
Stanford’s Molly Gray swept the diving events on the day. Gray put up a total score of 291.98 in 1-meter diving, then won 3-meter with a score of 325.13.

Gigi Johnson’s 50.5 was in the 100 fly, for anyone else who was wondering.
“Stanford’s Torri Huske only swam one race individually, but she made the most of it. Huske threw down a very quick 52.56 in the 100 IM. That performance stands as a career best for Huske.”
She also swam the 100 breast, finishing in a personal best by 4 100ths over the time she swam at this meet last year. She placed 3rd with a 1.00.70.
Stanford to give UVA a huge run at NCAAs
totally agree – it’s rare that Stanford sneaks up on people but could see this happening…
if Stanford is firing on all cylinders, and UVA has some missteps (a relay DQ or one of their stars not on) — it could be closer than people think…
one sneaky result: Charlotte Hook going 4:08 in her 400 IM, which seems like is her fastest result since starting at Stanford. she’s had a few unfortunate injuries in the past year, but if she can continue to improve on a strong trajectory, could contribute some critical points. and imagine Stanford landing 4 people in the A final in the 400 IM (Bricker, Bell, Thompson, Hook)!
