Middle-Distance Specialist William Sollie Announces Commitment To Queens’ Class Of 2030

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

William Sollie from Decatur, Georgia, has committed to Queens University Charlotte for 2026-27 and beyond. He publicized the commitment on Instagram, writing:

I am ecstatic to announce my verbal commitment to Queens University of Charlotte to continue my academic and athletic journey! I would like to thank my parents and siblings who have always supported me as well as my coaches for pushing me. Thanks so much to Queens athletics for this opportunity! Go Royals!!

Sollie attends Decatur High School and trains year-round with the Dynamo Swim Club. He’s a versatile swimmer still searching for his true niche, currently strong across middle-distance freestyle, IM, the 200 backstroke, and the 200 butterfly.

He consistently drops time in all of his top events each season. Just two weeks ago at the Georgia Senior State Championships, he lowered all his best times in his most successful performance at the meet to date.

At this year’s championships, he finished seventh in the mile (16:32.32), dropping over 23 seconds; 11th in the 200 back (1:54.37), shaving nearly seven seconds off his personal best; 11th in the 200 IM (1:56.52), improving by nearly three and a half seconds; 12th in the 400 IM (4:08.52), dropping over 11 seconds; 19th in the 200 fly (1:58.61), cutting more than five and a half seconds; 16th in the 500 free (4:45.96) with a two-second drop; and 51st in the 200 free (1:47.99), lowering his best by over seven seconds.

Throughout his high school career, he has qualified for the Georgia High School Association 5A State meet all three years, with a chance to make it four for four this February. As a freshman, he finished 15th in the 500 free (5:03.53) and 40th in the 200 IM (2:13.97). As a sophomore, he touched sixth in the 500 free (4:50.74) and 16th in the 200 IM (2:03.84). Last year, he placed eighth in the 500 free (4:48.65) and 14th in the 200 IM (2:00.44).

Top SCY Times:

  • 200 Freestyle: 1:47.99
  • 500 Freestyle: 4:45.96
  • 1650 Freestyle: 16:32.32
  • 200 IM: 1:56.52
  • 400 IM: 4:08.52
  • 200 Backstroke: 1:54.37
  • 200 Butterfly: 1:58.61

Queens University is a Division I school in North Carolina led by 16-year head coach Jeff Dugdale. The team competes in the ASUN Conference and made history last year by capturing its first conference championship, just three years after joining. This season marks the Royals’ debut as a full-fledged Division I athletic program (meaning they can compete at the D1 Championships), following their reclassification process that began in 2022. Before the jump, they dominated at the Division II level, winning seven straight NCAA championships from 2015 to 2022.

Based on his best times, Sollie would have scored in the ‘B’ finals of the 400 IM, 200 fly, and 200 back at the 2025 conference meet. His best time in the mile would have also placed 14th in the timed final of that event. It took times of 1:53.08 in the 200 IM and 1:41.32/4:38.56 in the middle-distance freestyles to earn a second swim.

On the team’s 2024-25 depth chart, Sollie would have ranked third in the mile, seventh in the 400 IM and 200 fly, eighth in the 200 back, ninth in the 500 free, 12th in the 200 IM, and 13th in the 200 free. With that level of versatility, he will be useful to fill various slots across dual meets.

Sollie joins Joey Coleman (breast/IM), Reilly Eagan (breast/IM), Ivan Kiselev (sprint free), and Inald Fernandes Perna (fly/mid-distance free) in committing to the Royals’ class of 2030.
