How Matt Bowe Is Chasing His Brand of Success as First Time Head Coach at Michigan

Head Coach Matt Bowe is in his 3rd year at Michigan, and the results are starting to show. Recently, at the CSCAA Dual Meet Tournament, the UM women placed 2nd and the men were 3rd (out of 4 teams), both breaking school records. Both teams not only won very close matchups that came down to the last relay (women vs Tennessee and men vs Virginia), but the women also handed the Virginia women a rare loss in the 200 medley relay.

Bowe came on the SwimSwam podcast to discuss how he has been building culture since arriving in Ann Arbor and what navigating the NCAA landscape has looked like in a post-House settlement world.

In the SwimSwam Podcast dive deeper into the sport you love with insider conversations about swimming. Hosted by Coleman Hodges and Gold Medal Mel Stewart, SwimSwam welcomes both the biggest names in swimming that you already know, and rising stars that you need to get to know, as we break down the past, present, and future of aquatic sports.

If I were Dorenkott + OSU I would be very nervous about their grip on the W B1G with this guy at the helm

Especially since Bowe was on OSU’s staff for a few years. He knows Bowe is good.

He mentions first loss since 2021. They got 4th at ACCs last year. Although that was with their b team but a loss is a loss.

To be fair to Mike bottom, or whoever else holds the job, it’s got to be hard to get people to commit to living in Ann Arbor for 4 to 5 years. I mean, all things equal you’d probably rather live in South Florida or California or Austin.
