Ohio Bobcats Hold Off Liberty To Claim 2025 TYR ’85 Invite Title

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Ohio swim and dive team wrapped up the final day of competition at the 2025 TYR’ 85 Invite on Sunday evening (Nov. 23). The Bobcats concluded the three-day event with 2,768 total points, enough to hold off host Liberty, and claim first place at this year’s event.

Liberty finished second with 2,410 points, followed by Campbell in third with 1,427.5 points.

The Bobcats opened the finals this evening with the 1650 free, with senior Anna McGrath (Lewis Center, Ohio) placing second with a time of 17:04.95, while freshman Katrina Kollin (Dublin, Ohio) finished fifth in 17:13.19.

Junior Melanie Schweikert (Maineville, Ohio) placed third in the 200 back, finishing with a time of 1:58.85. Freshman Lily Baumgartner (Ada, Ohio) finished fourth (1:50.92), while sophomore Juliana Slaninka (Mentor, Ohio) placed fifth with a time of 2:00.26.

Junior Zita Szoke (Serbia, Becej) placed first in the 100 free, touching in with a time of 47.65, while freshman Juliette Daigneault (Scottsdale, Ariz.) placed third with a time of 50.12.

In the 200 breast, senior Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio) picked up the first-place finish, touching in with a time of 2:11.03, while senior Emily Ellsworth (Westerville, Ohio) placed fourth in 2:18.09.

Freshman Jana Macik (Aldie, Va.) earned a first-place finish in the 200 fly, finishing the race with a time of 1:59.86, while junior Isabella Arbaugh (Ann Arbor, Mich.) finished in fifth with a time of 2:03.36.

Ohio concluded the night with the 4×100 free relay, with the Ohio ‘A’ team of Szoke, Daigneault, freshman Tori Wittenberg (Medford, N.J.) and sophomore Jordan Claypoole (Parkersburg, W. Va.) placed first, finishing the relay with a time of 3:13.38.

In the platform dive, freshman Alyssa Kiszczak (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) finished third with a score of 197.18.

Up next, some of the Bobcats will be back in action Dec. 3-6 at the 2025 Toyota US Open in Austin, Texas. The Bobcat divers are back in action Jan. 8-10 at the UB Diving Invite, while the entire Ohio squad is back in action again on Friday, Jan. 16 against Bowling Green. Meet time is set for 5 p.m. at the Ohio University Aquatic Center. It will also be Senior Night.

Ohio won its first TYR ’85 Invite, scoring 2,768 points. Last year’s champion, Liberty, placed second with 2,410 points. Campbell (1,427.5), UNC Pembroke (1,126), Saint Francis (Pa.) (967.5) and California (Pa.) (590) rounded out team standings, in that order. Georgia Southern and UNC Asheville have divers only competing at Liberty this weekend.

  • Ohio won four events this evening, while Liberty claimed the 1,650 freestyle (Eden Troxell), platform diving (Shannon Icard) and 200 backstroke (Gwyneth Frick).
  • For the meet, Liberty saw one program record broken, while four NCAA Zone Diving qualifications were made and three NCAA swimming qualifying standards were met.
  • Aly Bozzuto finished second in a close 200 breaststroke A Final race to Ohio’s Casadie DiBetta (2:11.03). Bozzuto’s NCAA standard time of 2:11.21 broke her own program record of 2:11.28.
  • Eden Troxell won the 1,650 freestyle in 16:53.33, more than 10 seconds clear of second place.
  • Gwyneth Frick claimed victory in the 200 backstroke in 1:56.10, with teammate Malia Francis finishing second in 1:57.06.
  • Kamryn Cannings placed second in the 100 freestyle in 49.77, trailing only Ohio’s Zita Szoke. Dakota Howard (50.49) and Natalie Colarossi (50.71) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
  • Ohio’s Jana Macik won the 200 fly in 1:59.86, with Liberty taking second (Riley Leach – 2:00.31), third (Emily Harstad – 2:02.29) and fourth (Emma Herrera – 2:02.66).
  • Liberty’s Aly Bozzuto claimed the 100 breaststroke in NCAA-standard 1:00.26, narrowly beating Ohio’s Casadie DiBetta (1:00.45). Karis Francis placed seventh in 1:04.86.
  • Ohio held off a late-charging Liberty in the meet-ending 400 free relay, with the Bobcats winning in 3:18.38 and the Lady Flames taking second in 3:18.61.

Historically Speaking

  • Gwyneth Frick is now fourth all-time at Liberty in the 200 backstroke (1:56.10) following tonight’s A Final.
  • Savannah Watts’ 220.50 from today’s A Final ranks fifth on Liberty’s all-time top 10 performers list for platform diving, while Mercy Goodnight is ranked 10th with her 179.85 from prelims.
  • Leach’s 2:00.31 in the 200 fly A Final is ranked eighth in program history, while Emma Herrera’s 2:02.66 is 10th.
  • Liberty’s 3:18.61 from tonight’s 400 free relay ranks fourth on Liberty’s all-time top 10 performers list in that event.
