Lisa Mamié, a two-time Olympian and Swiss national swimmer, has announced her retirement from competitive swimming.

Mamié, 27, shared in an Instagram post that she was stepping back from the sport after 20 years to pursue other projects moving forward.

Mamié cited increasing physical complaints as a contributing factor to her retirement, as she had endured ongoing shoulder pain, among other ailments, over the past year that were preventing her from training or performing at 100% in the water.

“After consulting with several doctors and thinking long and hard about the situation and considering where I stand in my life, I have come to the conclusion that it is time to start a new chapter,” Mamié said. “The decision is not an easy one, because swimming is still very close to my heart and will always be, but given the circumstances, I think it is the right one to take.”

A breaststroke specialist, Mamié competed at both the 2021 and 2024 Olympic Games. A semifinalist at the Tokyo Olympics, she placed 14th in the 200 breast (2:25.11) and 15th in the 100 breast (1:07.41). She did not make it out of the preliminary heats in Paris.

Mamié’s top international performance came at the 2022 LEN European Championships, where she won gold in the 200 breast in 2:23.27. The year prior at the 2021 European Championship, she took home silver in the 200 breast with a time of 2:22.05, which to this day marks her lifetime best and the Swiss national record in the event.

In the lead up to the Paris Games, Mamié raced at the European Aquatics Championships, winning silver in the 100 breast (1:07.15) and bronze in the 200 breast (2:26.10).

Mamié’s final competition before announcing her retirement was at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in August, where she finished 35th in the 100 breast (1:08.84).

Mamié currently owns Swiss Records in every women’s breaststroke event in both short course meters and long course meters, as well as four relay records.

Mamié’s Individual Swiss Records

  • 50 breast (LCM) – 31.17
  • 100 breast (LCM) – 1:06.60
  • 200 breast (LCM) – 2:22.05
  • 50 breast (SCM) – 30.24
  • 100 breast (SCM) – 1:05.34
  • 200 breast (SCM) – 2:20.45

Over the course of her career, Mamié represented Switzerland on the major international stage for a decade, racing at her first SC European Championships back in 2015.

Now that she has stepped back from being a professional athlete, Mamié plans to focus on completing her university degree and obtaining a teaching diploma, although she will continue to be connected to the sport.
