Carlee Davis, a senior from Las Lomas High School in Walnut Creek, California will stay in state next fall to swim at Pepperdine University in Malibu. Davis, a sprint freestyler, swims club for the Walnut Creek Aquabears.
I am unbelievably grateful to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Pepperdine University! I could not have gotten to this point without all the support from coaches, family, friends, and teammates. So excited for the next four years and for this opportunity! Go Waves @pepperdinewsd
At the CIF North Coast Championships this past May, Davis recorded several personal bests to help Las Lomas to an 8th place finish in a field of 74 teams. She swam a 1:54.60 in the 200 free and a 5:08.35 in the 500 free to place 11th and 10th, respectively, both of which were slightly off the PBs of 1:53.94/5:08.35 that she set in prelims. She also led off Las Lomas’ 200 medley relay in 27.65 and 400 free relay in 52.65, both of which were new bests.
At the CIF State Championships a week later, she led off those same relays in 27.77 and 53.39, helping Las Lomas to a 26th place finish in the 200 medley and a 23rd place finish in the 400 free relay.
Davis’ long course season wrapped up at the Far Western Championships, where she placed 3rd in the 50 free with a PB (27.61), 5th in the 400 free (4:43.37), 4th in the 100 free (1:00.16), 3rd in the 200 free (2:12.23), and 6th in the 100 back (1:09.91).
Best times SCY:
- 50 free: 24.36
- 100 free: 52.65
- 200 free: 1:53.94
- 500 free: 5:08.35
Pepperdine is a D1 mid-major in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), and are the reigning conference champions. It’s their third conference title in four years, and first since joining the MPSF in 2023. They were led by Skylar Bruner, whose 3 individual wins helped them eke out the victory over the University of San Diego by 11.5 points.
Pepperdine’s head coach Ellie Monobe, who was in the midst of her sixth season with the Waves, notably stepped down on November 11th to take the role of head coach at Mt. Saint Mary’s College. Pepperdine has yet to announce a new head coach, but has stated that they’ll begin a nationwide search in the spring.
Davis’ times project to be quick enough to make an immediate impact for the Waves, as it took times of 24.61/54.12/1:57.19/5:18.02 to qualify for a second swim last year. Her 200 free in particular would have placed her into the championship final, while she would have placed 9th out of prelims in the 500.
She’ll also make an impact on Pepperdine’s relays, as her times would have ranked 5th, 4th, and 7th on last season’s roster. However, their top sprinter, Alexandra Browne, has graduated, and the next two fastest freestylers on the team, Anna Ryan and Lindsay Hemming, are current seniors. Davis’ arrival will therefore help mitigate those losses.
Caroline MacDonald (distance free), Kat Kracht (breast/IM), Frankie Ramey (distance free), and Arden Bewersdorf (free/IM) round out the rest of Pepperdine’s 2026 recruiting class.
