Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwamβs College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Thomas McMillan from St. Charles Swim Team in St. Charles, Illinois, has made a verbal commitment to swim and study at North Carolina State University beginning in 2027-28. He wrote on social media:
βAfter careful consideration, I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at North Carolina State University. I am very grateful to my friends, family, and coaches at scst/scn for all their support. I would also like to thank Coach Braden and the rest of the staff for providing me with this incredible opportunity. GO PACK!! β¦οΈβ¦οΈβ¦οΈβ
McMillan owns the fastest 100 fly time in the cohort and ranks 5th in the 100 back, making him the #6 recruit on our Way Too Early list of top boysβ swimmers in the high school class of 2027.
Last summer, before he turned 15, McMillan broke the National Age Group record for 13-14 boys in the 100-meter backstroke with 56.36, improving his seed time (59.30) by nearly 3 full seconds. Over the duration of the short-course season, he dropped 2.5 seconds in the 100 fly, 4.6 in the 200 fly, 1.5 in the 100 back, .6 in the 50 free, and 4.0 in the 100 free.
At the 2025 IHSA Boys State Championship, McMillan helped St. Charles North High School to a 12-place finish in the team standings by winning the 100 fly (with a PB of 46.52) and placing 2nd in the 100 back (47.74, also a PB). He also led off the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay, picking up a lifetime best in the 50 back (22.15) in the process.
At Rochester Sectionals, he further lowered his 100 back time to 47.45 and clocked PBs in the 50 free (20.92), 200 free (1:40.64), and 200 fly (1:45.58), while winning the 100 back and 100/200 fly.
McMillan kicked off long course season at U.S. Nationals, where he swam lifetime bests in the 50 back (26.41), 50 fly (24.85), and 100 fly (53.95). He represented Team USA at World Aquatics Junior Championships, competing in the 100 fly, where he placed 19th in prelims and was just a tick off his PB with 54.08.
McMillan fits an NC State profile that has included, over the last decade, fly/back stars such as Ryan Held, Coleman Stewart, Justin Ress, Aiden Hayes, Kacper Stokowski, Nyls Korstanje, Noah Hensley, Andreas Vazaios, and more. He will join βBOTRβ breaststroker Seth Morgan and Β #7 diver Landyn Snook in the Wolfpackβs class of 2031.

Boom! π₯πΊπ₯πΊπ₯
Big pickup!
Even though this kid is fast, he may have some of the ugliest strokes I have ever seen.
seems like a personal opinion
And unnecessary for a kid still in HS
Well, good for him. Fast af and still lots of room for improvement!
why are there so many a-holes in the comment section. so unnecessary.
