For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Morgan Farmer has made a verbal commitment to swim and study at Southern Methodist University, becoming the university’s second publicized commit in the class of 2031.
Farmer confirmed the decision on SwimCloud, writing:
I am honored and beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at Southern Methodist University! I am so grateful for everyone who has helped me get here including my family, friends, teammates, and coaches Caleb, Will, Mike, and Zac. Finally, thank you coach Ozzie, Alice, and Mike for believing in me and giving me this opportunity! I cannot wait to represent such an incredible program! PONY UP🐎💙❤️
The future Mustang is from Smyrna, Georgia, where she attends Whitefield Academy and trains year-round with SwimAtlanta. She’s a versatile middle-distance swimmer, strong across the 50-100 freestyle, 100-200 backstroke, and 100 butterfly.
She had a blockbuster 2024–25 season, dropping from 57.85 to 55.78 in the 100 fly, 57.45 to 56.15 in the 100 back, 2:04.76 to 2:02.97 in the 200 back, 53.22 to 52.40 in the 100 free, and shaving three hundredths off her 50 free best, from 24.19 to 24.16.
The Georgia Senior State Championships in December was arguably Farmer’s best meet of the season—it’s where she produced those current best times in the 50 free, 100 back, and 200 back. Her highest finish came in the 200 back, where she touched second. She also placed fourth in the 100 back, 18th in the 50 free, and 22nd in the 100 fly with a then-season best of 58.26. Her swims marked a major leap from the 2023 edition of the meet, when she didn’t place inside the top 16 in any of those events.
At the SwimAtlanta Best of the South Meet in March, she swam her 55.78 100 fly personal best. The swim earned her ninth place, her top showing of the meet, and she went on to grab 16th in the 50 free (24.28), 21st in the 100 free (52.60), 13th in the 100 back (57.49), and 21st in the 200 back (2:04.25).
Farmer’s best time in the 100 free was recorded at February’s Georgia High School Association (GHSA) 3A State meet, where she picked up a pair of bronze medals in the 100 back (57.34) and 200 free (1:51.62), with her time in the latter marking a new PB. She also assisted Whitefield in placing fifth in the 400 free relay, leading off with a lifetime best 52.40, and splitting 27.14 on the fly leg of the 200 medley relay that hit the wall 13th.
Her individual swims were right on par with where she was in her freshman year, when she secured bronze in the 100 back (57.45) and silver in the 200 free (1:54.54).
Over the summer, Farmer qualified and competed at the Futures Championship, which is held in a long course pool. She took on the 100 back (1:04.58), 100 fly (1:03.46), 200 free (2:08.07), 200 back (2:26.88), and 200 IM (2:29.23). Her best placement came in the 100 back, where she finished 17th. She also touched 21st in the 100 fly, 30th in the 200 free, 39th in the 200 back, and 55th in the 200 IM, and her times in the 100 back, 100 fly, and 200 free marked new lifetime bests.
Top SCY Times:
- 50 Freestyle: 24.16
- 100 Freestyle: 52.40
- 100 Backstroke: 56.15
- 200 Backstroke: 2:02.97
- 100 Butterfly: 55.78
SMU, led by third-year head coach Ozzie Quevedo, competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Last season, the Mustang women placed 14th out of 15 teams at the conference meet.
Farmer projects to be a valuable addition to the roster in all of her main events. Her lifetime bests in the 100 back, 200 back, and 100 fly would have ranked fourth on the team’s 2024–25 depth chart, while her 50 free would have been seventh and her 100 free ninth.
Freshman Teia Salvino led the way in the 100 back with a time of 52.98 and the 100 fly in 53.16, while graduate student Rachel Anderson (1:54.38) was the team’s top performer in the 200 back. Junior Maddy Parker‘s times of 22.26 and 48.09 in the 50 and 100 free stood as the program’s leading marks.
Farmer will overlap with Salvino for two seasons, adding depth to the Mustangs’ backstroke and butterfly crews. Molly Barnes, SMU’s only other publicized commit in the class of 2031, will also boost the backstroke group with times of 55.46 and 1:59.14.
At the 2025 ACC Championships, which featured ‘A,’ ‘B,’ and ‘C’ finals, it took 53.18 in the 100 back, 1:56.25 in the 200 back, 52.69 in the 100 fly, 22.41 in the 50 free, and 48.72 in the 100 free to score in Farmer’s primary events.
