Long Course YNATS Runner-Up Maya Freeman Commits to Duquesne for 2026

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

YMCA of the Jersey Shore’s Maya Freeman has verbally committed to Duquesne University as a part of the Dukes’ 2026 recruiting class.

I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to Duquesne University! Thank you to my family, friends, and coaches for supporting me over the years — I would not be here without you. Finally, thank you to Coach Dave and everyone at Duquesne for this opportunity. I am so so grateful and I can’t wait!! Go Dukes! ❤️💙

Freeman had a great showing at the YMCA National Long Course Championships to close out her summer. She set lifetime bests in all of her individual races, highlighted by a pair of runner-up finishes in the 50 fly (27.83) and 100 fly (1:01.77). She also notched best times in the 200 fly (2:17.92), placing 3rd, and the 200 freestyle (2:11.26), where she finished 27th.

The Red Bank, N.J., native also had a productive outing at the YMCA National Short Course Championships in April. There, she set best times in all three butterfly races, clocking 25.68 in the 50 fly, 55.40 in the 100 fly, and 2:02.51 in the 200 fly.

Freeman’s repertoire expands beyond strictly butterfly; she holds a solid best of 1:55.81 in the 200 free from a time-trial at the YMCA Shortcourse National Championships in April. Her 400 IM PB sits at a respectable 4:40.77 from the NJ YMCA State Championships in March; at that same meet, she swam a best 100 free in 54.03.

Best Times SCY:

  • 100 Fly: 55.40
  • 200 Fly: 2:02.51
  • 100 Free: 54.03
  • 200 Free: 1:55.81
  • 400 IM: 4:40.77

Duquesne, a women’s-only program, finished 3rd at the 2025 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships last season.

Based on Freeman’s best times, she would have qualified for the championship final in the 200 fly, ‘B’ final in the 100 fly, and placed 58th in the 100 free.

Her butterfly skill could be a valuable asset to the Duquesne women. The biggest question will be what she’ll choose to focus on for a third event, given that outside of butterfly, her other specialties (200 free, 400 IM) coincide with the 100 fly on the schedule.

Freeman joins Addi Ebol, Kathryn Cinson, Caitlin Goff, and Lainey Sheets in Duquesne’s 2026 recruiting class.
