One of the marquis events on day two of the first stop of the 2025 World Aquatics Swimming World Cup in Carmel, Indiana, was the men’s 50m backstroke final.
Hungarian Olympic champion Hubert Kos got to the wall first in 22.65, establishing a new U.S. Open record in the process.
Behind him tonight was Ralf Tribuntsov of Romania, who touched in 22.91, followed by Dylan Carter of Trinidad & Tobago, who wrangled up bronze in 23.00.
Kos’ effort erased the former U.S. Open Record of 22.72 Carter put on the books in 2022. His performance fell just 0.01 seconds outside the Hungarian national record of 22.64, set by Kos himself at the 2024 Short Course World Championships.
