Lady Vols Pick Up 1st 2027 Verbal Commitment from #17 Sloane Whelehan

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Sloane Whelehan, who hails from Cary, North Carolina, has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Tennessee’s class of 2031.

“I am so incredibly grateful to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the University of Tennessee!! I would like to thank my parents, coaches, friends, and teammates for all of their support throughout this process. A special thanks to Matt Kredich along with the rest of the Tennessee coaching staff for this amazing opportunity!! GO VOLS 🍊🍊”

Whelehan swims for Green Hope High School, where she is a junior, and TAC Titans. She is a versatile free/back/IM talent whom we ranked #17 on our Way Too Early list of top girls’ swimming recruits in the high school class of 2027.

As a sophomore at the 2025 NCHSAA Class 4A State Championships, she won the 50 free (22.93) and 200 free (1:46.98), hitting PBs in both events. She also had freestyle splits of 22.40/48.55 on the 4×50 and 4×100 relays. That marked a significant improvement from freshman year, when she won the 50 free (then-PB of 23.23) and was 3rd in the 200 free (1:49.11), and put up relays splits of 23.01/50.51.

Prior to the 2025 high school state meet, Whelehan competed at Winter Juniors East and placed 6th in the 400 IM with a lifetime best of 4:16.31 in prelims. She also clocked a PB in the 200 back in finals (1:55.86) with her 17th-place finish. In March, she lowered her PBs in the 50 free (22.81), 100 free (49.49), 100 back (54.19), and 100 fly (54.76) at Cary Sectionals.

Whelehan kicked off long-course season with a 1.6-second drop in the 200 free (2:04.63) at U.S. Nationals in June. She ended the summer at Greensboro Futures logging PBs in the 50 free (26.40), 100 free (56.59), 200 free (2:03.96), and 200 back (2:15.75), while placing 6th in the 50 free, 3rd in the 100 free, and 11th in the 200 free.

Best SCY times:

  • 200 free – 1:46.98
  • 100 free – 49.49
  • 50 free – 22.81
  • 400 IM – 4:16.31
  • 200 IM – 2:00.71
  • 200 back – 1:55.86
  • 100 back – 54.19
  • 100 fly – 54.76
  • 500 free – 4:54.39

There were 9 Lady Vols under 23 second in the 50 free last year. Four were better than 49 seconds in the 100 free, and 10 were faster than 1:47 in the 200. Whelehan would have ranked 4th in the 400 IM and 8th in the 200 IM on the 2024-25 Tennessee roster.
