#11 Joey Campagnola Announces Verbal Commitment to Virginia for 2027-28

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Joey Campagnola from Seminole, Florida, has announced his intention to join the University of Virginia men’s swimming and diving team in the fall of 2027. He wrote on social media:

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic journey at the University of Virginia! I want to give a huge thank you to my coach, Cashel Mack for her constant support and encouragement throughout this process. I’m also extremely grateful to Coach Todd, Coach Tyler, and the entire UVA coaching staff for believing in me and giving me this incredible opportunity. Most importantly, I want to thank my family for always being my biggest supporters. I can’t wait to be a part of the Cavalier family! WAHOOWA!”

Campagnola, a junior at Seminole High School who swims year-round with West Florida Lightning Aquatics, is a versatile talent whose IM times are among the best in the class. We ranked him 11th among our top 20 on the Way Too Early list of boys swimming recruits from the high school class of 2027.

As a sophomore swimming at the 2024 FHSAA Class 2A Championships, he won the 200 IM (1:47.20) and was runner-up in the 100 back (48.24); both times were lifetime bests. He also clocked PBs in the 50 free (20.57) and 50 back (22.39) leading off Seminole’s 200 free and 200 medley relays. A month later he notched best times in the 200 back (1:46.67), 100 breast (54.81), and 200 IM (1:45.90) at Winter Juniors East, finaling in the 200 IM (4th) and 100 breast (21st). He finished the season with a PB of 3:49.91 in the 400 IM PB at Florida LSC Senior Championships in March.

At U.S. Nationals in June, Campagnola finaled in the 200 IM and established a new PB of 2:05.80. He also went 57.53 in the 100 back in time trials. He bookended that performance with a strong showing at Ocala Futures, where he wrapped up the long-course season with PBs in the 50 free (24.09), 100 fly (56.09), and 400 IM (4:31.84).

Campagnola had some significant improvements during the year, including -.8 in the 100 breast, -2.8 in the 200 breast, 3 in the 200 IM, and 10.9 in the 400 IM.

His times are not far out of scoring position at ACC Championships in the 100 breast (it took 53.12), 200 breast (1:55.80), 200 IM (1:44.70), and 400 IM (3:47.80).

Best SCY times:

  • 100 breast – 54.81
  • 200 breast – 1:59.06
  • 200 IM – 1:45.90
  • 400 IM – 3:49.91
  • 50 free – 20.57
  • 100 back – 48.24
  • 200 back – 1:46.67

So far, UVA has received verbal commitments from Campagnola, Daniel Branon, and Luc Dionne for the 2027-28 season.
