Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Shannon Conway, who hails from Towson, Maryland, has announced her verbal commitment to The Ohio State University’s class of 2031.
“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at The Ohio State University! I am forever grateful for my family, friends, and coaches, who have helped make all of this possible with their endless support. A special thank you to Coach Bill Dorenkott, Coach Ignacio Gayo, and the rest of the OSU staff for this incredible opportunity! Go Bucks!!”
A junior at Notre Dame Preparatory School, Conway swims year-round with North Baltimore Aquatic Club and specializes mainly in the full range of freestyle events, but is also strong in backstroke and butterfly. We considered her an “Honorable Mention” recruit in our Way Too Early ranking of top girls’ swimmers in the high school class of 2027.
In high school swimming last year, she earned a pair of gold medals at the National Catholic High School Championships in the 200 free (1:49.50) and 500 free (4:53.57).
She swam her best time in the 500 free, as well as the mile, the 200 fly, and the 100 IM, earlier in the season at the NBAC Thanksgiving Meet, where she won all her events (50/500/1650 free, 100 back, 200 fly, and 100/200 IM). At the ISCA January Classic, she emerged victorious in the 50/100/200 free, 50 back, 50/100 fly, and 200 IM, and left with new PBs in the 200 free, 50 back, 50 breast, 50/100 fly, and 200 IM. She wrapped up short-course season at the Maryland Senior Short Course State Championships, where she clocked lifetime bests in the 50/100 free and 100 back and won every event she entered (50/100/200/1000 free, 100 back, 100 fly, and 200 IM).
This summer, she competed in the 50/200 free, 100 back, 50/100/200 fly, and 200/400 IM at Summer Junior Nationals.
Best SCY times:
- 1650 free – 16:32.04
- 1000 free – 9:48.31
- 500 free – 4:48.74
- 200 free – 1:47.65
- 100 free – 49.91
- 50 free – 22.99
- 200 IM – 2:00.06
- 400 IM – 4:17.80
- 100 fly – 54.12
- 200 fly – 2:00.41
- 100 back – 54.45
- 200 back – 1:59.94
Conway will join the Buckeyes’ class of 2031 with fellow verbal commits Jenna Frost, Lily Andruss, and Paige Burkey. She would already score at Big Ten Championships in the 1650 free and isn’t far off in the 50/100/200/500 free and 200/400 IM (it took 22.55/49.60/1:47.11/4:46.00 and 1:59.66/4:14.72 to get second swims in those events).
