SwimAtlanta’s Gavin Halusic, who hails from Marietta, Georgia, has announced his verbal commitment to Arizona State University. He will head west to Tempe in the fall of 2027.

In high school swimming, where he represents Lassiter High School, Halusic was runner-up in the 200 free (1:41.65, a big PB at the time) and placed 3rd in the 100 fly (50.00) as a freshman at the 2024 GHSA 6A State Championships. Last season, he won the fly with a PB of 48.30 and the 50 free with a PB of 20.63 at the 2025 GHSA 5A State Championships.
Halusic lowered his 100 fly time a month later at SwimAtlanta’s Best of the South meet, where he came in 4th with 48.09. He also hit a lifetime best in the 200 fly (1:48.37) in prelims, and was only .16 off that time with his 2nd-place finish in the final. He picked up a 3rd PB in the 100 free, going 45.33 and finishing 6th. Two weeks later, he won the 100/200 fly at Greater Atlanta Divisionals and sliced another 1.2 seconds off his 200 fly PB (1:47.16).
Halusic kicked off long course season with a pair of lifetime bests in the 50/100 free (24.06/51.98) and 100 fly (55.33) at Bulldog Glam Slam in May. He closed out the summer at Ocala Futures, finishing the season with new 50/100/200 butterfly times (25.31/55.29/2:06.97).
It was his butterfly performances that stood out to us when we published our “Way Too Early” rankings of the class of 2027 after their sophomore year, and we considered Halusic one of the “Best of the Rest.”
Best SCY times:
- 200 free – 1:47.16
- 100 fly – 48.09
- 200 free – 1:39.78
- 100 free – 45.33
- 50 free – 20.63
Halusic’s best times would already score at Big 12 Championships ‘B’ final of the 200 fly and in the ‘C’ final of the 100 fly. It took 1:36.97/44.06/20.08 to final in the 200/100/50 free at the conference meet.
