Distance Freestyler Ashton Joswiak Commits To Wisconsin’s Class Of 2030

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Distance freestyler Ashton Joswiak, a native of Scottsdale, Arizona, has committed to swim and study at the University of Wisconsin–Madison beginning in the 2026–2027 school year. He trains year-round with the Scottsdale Aquatic Club and attends Brophy College Preparatory High School.

He confirmed the commitment in an email to SwimSwam, and provided the following quote:

I’m extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I would like to thank my family, friends, and teammates for all the support. I would also like to thank my coaches Scott and Garret for all their support. Go Badgers!

Joswiak, who made the 2023-2024 USA Swimming Scholastic All American Team and 2023 & 2024 AZ All-Academic Teams, is a distance freestyle specialist.

In December, Joswiak touched 4th in the 1650 free with a time of 15:08.10 at the Speedo Winter Junior Championship – West. He sliced 30.68 seconds off his former personal mark, breaking the 15-16 Arizona State Record by seven seconds in the process. In addition to that record, he also owns the 15-16 Scottsdale Aquatic Club records in both the 1000 free and 1650 free.

Also during Winter Juniors, he contributed to Scottsdale Aquatic Club’s ‘B’ 800 free relay with a 1:39.64 split, helping the team to 26th place. He also competed in the 500 free, securing 53rd with a time of 4:29.88 and breaking the 4:30 barrier for the first time in his career.

Joswiak wrapped up his short course season at the Speedo Sectionals in Austin in March, where he competed in the 200-1650 free in addition to the 400 IM. He stopped the clock in 1:42.43 for 47th in the 200 free, 4:33.09 for 8th in the 500 free, and 15:35.16 for 8th in the 1650 free. He notched career bests in both the 1000 free, where he hit the wall 8th in 9:25.95, as well as the 400 IM, where he swam 4:00.98 for 12th.

Top SCY Times:

  • 200 Freestyle: 1:40.73
  • 500 Freestyle: 4:29.88
  • 1500 Freestyle: 15:08.10

A Division I program in the Big Ten Conference, the Badger men placed sixth out of nine teams at the conference championships in February. The team went on to finish 22nd at the NCAA Championships less than a month later.

The conference meet scores ‘A,’ ‘B,’ and ‘C’ finals, and Joswiak’s best time in the 1650 free would have placed 14th last season. It took 1:36.52 and 4:20.80 to score in the 200 and 500 free, respectively, so he’ll need to make significant drops in those events to be competitive.

According to last season’s team depth chart, Joswiak’s 1650 free would have ranked third on the team, while his 500 and 200 free times would have been eighth and tenth.

Dr. Jack Brown now leads the Wisconsin program, having taken over in May after seven-year head coach Yuri Suguiyama departed to become USA Swimming’s National Team Director and Coach.

Joswiak joins Joshua Smith and Max Stewart in the Badgers’ 2030 recruiting class.
