Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Preston Kessler from Shelocta, Pennsylvania, is a Midshipman. He committed to the United States Naval Academy a year ago and started his Plebe Summer at the end of June.
Kessler swam for Indiana High School in Indiana, PA, and trained year-round with the YMCA of Indiana County Piranhas. We considered him one of the “Best of the Rest” recruits in the high school class of 2025, namely for his sprint free times.
In March, at the Pennsylvania 2A High School State Championships, Kessler won the 100 free (43.28) and 200 free (1:37.82) with a pair of lifetime bests. Two weeks later, he won the 50/100/200 free and placed 3rd in the 100 breast at the Pennsylvania YMCA State Championships. He capped off his season at the YMCA Short Course National Championships, where he won the 50 free (19.83), was runner-up in the 100 free (43.30), and placed 7th in the 200 free (1:39.19).
That YMCA meet was his last recorded official competition, as he bypassed the long course season while preparing for the Naval Academy.
Best times:
- 50 free – 19.83
- 100 free – 43.28
- 200 free – 1:37.82
- 50 back – 24.45
- 100 back – 51.10
- 100 fly – 48.86
Kessler would have been Navy’s fastest 100 freestyler last year by .3. His PB would have won the Patriot League title by .03. The Midshipmen had 5 sprinters break 20 seconds last year; Kessler would have been their 6th and the second-fastest. He would have been an ‘A’ finalist at conference in the 50. He would have had a huge impact on Navy’ relays, too.
Navy’s class of 2029 is their best recruiting class in years. With #17 Xavier Sohovich, an excellent mid-distance freestyler and 200 backstroker, one of the top sprinters (Kessler) and one of the top distance freestylers (Chase Maier), the Midshipmen have the whole freestyle range covered. They’ve also added Alex Park, Andrejs Brooks, Charlie Greenwood, Jaiden Sreenivasan, Joshua Lopez, Kai Funaro, Luke Lamb, and Zack Arnold for the 2025-26 season.
