McKay King swam for the Utes during the 2016-2017 school year, where he made the Pac-12 all-academic team. At the 2017 Pac-12 Championships, he finished 19th in both the 50 free (20.11) and 100 free (44.14). Before competing at Utah, King swam three years at BYU.
Last season, he was the associate head coach at American Fork High School, his alma mater. The American Fork boys team won the 5A state title and broke two state records while King was serving as a coach last year.
Head Coach Jonas Persson said “McKay is a great person and a great coach. He is very detail-oriented and smart. Having a coach on staff that also swam at Utah and loves the program is an advantage that is unbeatable. I can’t wait to have him start, get to know the team, and make us better!”
King joins a coaching staff of Persson, Head Diving Coach Richard Marschner, Associate Head Coach Joe Smith, and Assistant Coaches Brody Lewis, Jordan Taylor, Gabrielle Logozzo, and Aly Tetzloff.
The Utah men were 3rd and the Utah women were 5th at the 2025 Big 12 Championships.

At least this isn’t fully a “coaching experience includes being coached” situation, but its giving “I bought a house a teacher’s salary in 1950”
I mean it literally says volunteer. Power 5 is just different, you only get in if you’re already in. The sooner people realize that the sooner people can get over it.
