Germany Makes A Medal Table Move On Day Four Of 2025 World Championships

2025 World Championships

Day four of the 2025 World Championships concluded tonight in Singapore with the nations of Australia and the United States still occupying the top two slots on the overall swimming medal table.

Making a move from yesterday to today, however, was Germany, courtesy of distance aces Sven Schwarz and Lukas Märtens.

The pair competed in the final of the men’s 800m freestyle, a race in which Tunisian Ahmed Jaouadi won gold in a time of 7:36.88, establishing a new textile World Record in the process.

Schwarz snagged the silver in 7:39.96 followed by countryman Märtens who bagged the bronze in 7:40.19.

The two pieces of hardware elevated the nation of Germany to now rank 3rd in the medal table with four days of pool swimming competition remaining.

If Germany can maintain its momentum, it has a viable chance of surpassing its finishes at the last two editions of the World Championships.

In 2023, Germany placed 18th overall in the swimming medal table, reaping just one bronze medal in the form of Märtens’ bronze medal-worthy finish in the 400m free.

Last year, at the lesser-attended World Championships in Doha, Germany finished 12th overall, with 6 medals.

Märtens once again earned a medal, collecting bronze in the 400m free while teammate Florian Wellbrock reaped silver in the men’s 1500m free.

Isabel Gose captured 800m free silver and 1500m free bronze on the women’s side, with Angelina Köhler topping the women’s 100mfly podium.

We’ll see what Germany has in store as the remainder of the meet unfolds from Singapore.

You can combine whatever events you want since the World Aquatics Championships has more than just pool and open water swimming. That’s the full championships table.

Open water has a lot of crossover of athlete with pool swimming. Can’t see why it is not included.
