Maggie Wanezek continued her success this weekend in her home pool in Madison, posting a lifetime best 2:09.75 in the 200 backstroke during prelims. That was faster than her previous best of a 2:10.13 that she swam for 11th at 2024 US Olympic Trials. She swam a 2:13.81 for 32nd in the event at last month’s US Summer Nationals but her time this morning would have made the ‘B’ final.
In finals, Wanezek went for the first 100 split of the 200 backstroke. Wanezek swam to a 59.42. That marked her 2nd fastest 100 backstroke ever as she entered the meet with a best time 59.85 and swam to a 59.17 in the 100 backstroke on Thursday night. Earning the win in the 200 backstroke was Olivia Sina who swam to a 2:15.65, a best time by almost a second (2:16.39).
After breaking the 1:00 barrier in the 100 fly last night for the first time, Riley Anderson swam to another win, this time touching in a 25.65 in the 50 free. That dropped half a second off her previous best 26.15 that she swam during a time trial at last month’s US Summer Nationals.
Rising sophomore at Wisconsin Stella Chapman dropped two seconds off her best time in the 200 IM en route to a win. She touched in a 2:16.14, dropping from her previous best of a 2:18.94 that she swam at the end of May.
Ava Goodno earned the win in the 50 breast touching in a 32.14. 15 year old Brenley Bonez was close behind in a 32.28.
Highlighting the boys side of the night was Ryan Slonac who earned the win in the 200 IM with a lifetime best 2:02.16. That was faster than his previous best of a 2:02.76 that he swam at last summer’s Futures meet in Minneapolis for the win.
Also swimming to a best time in his win was Ben Wiegand. The Wisconsin Badger touched in a 22.60, faster than his previous best of a 22.77 that he swam in June 2024.
Wisconsin’s Michael Long won the 200 backstroke in a 2:01.07. Long has a best time of a 1:58.80 from May and swam a 2:01.11 at US Summer Nationals for 20th.
The final win of the night came from Luke Mychalowych as he won the 50 breast in a 28.12, a tenth ahead of Jonah Lee who swam to a 28.22. Mychalowych was faster in prelims with a 27.78, faster than his best time that he entered the meet with of a 28.53.
