The 2025 Mason Manta Rays Senior intrasquad saw Quinn Heis and Aidan Jansen reach USA Swimming national-level cuts for the first time.

Heis, the son of long-time Rays head coach Ken Heis, achieved a Winter Juniors cut in the boys’ 50 free, clocking a personal best of 23.95 while leading off the green team in the boys’ 200 freestyle relay. Jansen made his first Summer Junior Nationals cut in the same event, leading off the blue team in 23.70.

The 2025 Winter Juniors cut in the boys’ 50 free is 24.06, and the 2025 Summer Junior Nationals cut in the boys’ 50 free is 23.79

Both Jansen and Heis went faster in the relays than they did in the boys’ 50m freestyle, where they swam 23.89 and 24.12 for second and third place. They were topped by Brady Campbell, a 16-year-old who is ranked 8th in SwimSwam’s Way Too Early Recruit Rankings: Boys High School Class Of 2027

Campbell won the boys’ 50 free, clocking in at 23.57, and the boys’ 100 fly, touching the wall in 56.70.

Heis, Jansen, and Campbell were not the only swimmers with strong performances. The many college commits in the Rays’ senior group put on a show over the course of the meet.

Stanford commit Jason Zhao had a strong outing. He finished the boys’ 100 free in 50.76, taking first and beating Campbell to the wall, but not approaching his personal best of 49.39 from 2023’s Summer Junior Nationals.

Zhao also took first in the boys’ 200 IM (2:11.86), finishing ahead of University of Georgia commit Hayden Meyers (2:20.94), and the boys’ 400 IM (4:42.11), touching ahead of University of Louisville commit Ryder Hicks (4:43.78).

Meyers placed first in both of the boys’ backstroke events, clocking 58.23 in the 100 and 2:11.53 in the 200. Hicks, a breaststroker, placed first in the boys’ 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:24.17, but was beaten by Walker Bailey in an incredibly close race in the 100. Bailey’s winning time was 1:06.24, topping Hick’s 1:06.27. Bailey, also a breaststroke specialist, is committed to swim for Kenyon College.

The meet also featured multiple high level girls’ recruits. Stanford commit Addie Robillard, who is ranked 13th in SwimSwam’s Top 20 NCAA Swimming Recruits In The Girls Class of 2025, took first place in three events. She won the girls’ 100 breast in 1:11.51, the girls’ 200 breast in 2:34.35, and the girls’ 400 IM in 4:56.94. She didn’t challenge her personal bests in the breaststroke events, but was relatively close to her fastest time in the 400 IM, a 4:43.85 from the March’s Indianapolis Speedo Sectionals.

Maya Schweikert, who is committed to swim at NC State, also had a strong meet. She won the girls’ 100 backstroke in 1:04.34 and beat University of Minnesota commit Dana Fairbanks in the girls’ 200 backstroke, finishing in 2:20.08 over Fairbank’s 2:23.60. Fairbanks also took second in the girls’ 400 and 800 free, and took victory in the girls’ 200 IM. She finished in a time of 2:24.36, coming close to her personal best of 2:22.26 from 2024’s NCSA Summer Championships.

Taylor Bacher, who is committed to swim at Auburn University, took first in three events. She won the girls’ 800 free (9:15.82), 100 fly (1:02.11), and 200 fly (2:17.3). She was edged out by Northwestern commit Bella Teply in the girls’ 200 free, who came in at 2:04.57 as opposed to Bacher’s 2:04.64.

  • 16-year-old Norah Smyth took first in the girls’ 50 free with a time of 27.37 and grabbed second in the girls’ 100 free with a time of 59.40. She also placed third in the girls’ 100 breast, clocking 1:12.78, not far from her personal best of 1:12.50.
  • 15-year-old Jake Xu placed first in the boys’ 800 freestyle and smashed his personal best. He touched the wall in 8:58.62. His previous best was 9:03.02. He also finished in the top three in the boys’ 200 free (2:02.38) and the boys’ 200 fly (2:12.19).

Who will succeed Carson Foster in the next few years as king or queen of the Manta Ray alumni? Should be fun to watch. It’s great being a Manta Ray family.
