Freestyle and backstroke specialist Laila Chance has committed to continuing her swimming career at St. Bonaventure University this fall. Chance attended Riverview High School in Sarasota, Florida, and trains with the Sarasota Sharks.

Chance posted several personal bests at the Florida Senior Championship (SCY) in March. During prelims, she recorded new best times in the 50 free (24.73), 200 free (1:54.64), and 100 back (1:00.82). Chance also clocked a personal best of 52.64 in the 100 free as the leadoff swimmer for her team’s 400 free relay, helping them to a 7th-place finish. The relay team posted an overall time of 3:31.05.
In December 2024, Chance delivered a lifetime best in the 200 backstroke at the FL GSC Gator Holiday Classic (SCY), finishing 18th with a time of 2:09.63. She also earned second swims in two other events, placing 14th in the 100 free (53.61) and 16th in the 50 free (24.74).

St. Bonaventure, located in New York, placed 9th out of 11 teams at the 2025 Women’s Atlantic 10 Championships, a slight drop from its 8th-place finish the previous year. Chance is particularly strong in the 200 freestyle, an event in which the team’s top time last season was 1:50.76, recorded by sophomore Anna Forjan.
Chance will join St. Bonaventure’s incoming class this fall alongside Kate Hill, Mia Hill, Samantha Schnappauf, Caroline Murray, Zoe Purtell, Grace Purtell, Sophie Baker, and Cameron Darnell. Murray also brings a strong 200 freestyle time of 1:54.55.
