Barry University Adds Backstroker Sofia Ristancev For 2025

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Sofia Ristancev, a backstroker out of Windsor, Ontario, has announced her commitment to swim at Barry University beginning this fall.

Ristancev competes with Windsor Aquatic Club and attended St. Anne Catholic High School. Read her commitment announcement below:

I am super excited to announce that I have signed to pursue my athletic and academic career at Barry University, in Miami Florida!! I would like to give a huge thank you to my parents, family, coaches, and teammates that have always supported me and getting me to where I am today. I also want to thank Coach Noah, and all the Barry coaches for giving me this opportunity!

Can’t wait to see what my future holds!!

Go Buccaneers!! #NCAA

Ristancev has enjoyed a successful last club season, resetting her best times list before heading to Barry. At the Border City Invitational last December, she swept the SCM 100 (2:20.88) and 200 (1:05.48) backstrokes, earning best times in both events. This season, her 200 back personal best improved by seven seconds, while her 100 back pb dropped by two seconds.

The Canadian athlete also hit several new best times in long course this year. Most recently, she showcased her speed at the Western Region Championships by hitting new personal bests in the 50 free (29.46) and 50 back (32.22), demonstrating her relay potential.

Ristancev’s Best SCM Times (SCY conversion)

  • 200 back: 2:20.88 (2:06.91)
  • 100 back: 1:05.48 (58.99)
  • 50 free: 29.32 (26.41)
  • 100 fly: 1:11.13 (1:04.08)

The Ontarian is a valuable backstroke pick-up for the Parrots. Ristancev’s converted 200 backstroke time from this year would make her Barry’s #1 athlete in the event by over ten seconds last season. In the 100 back, meanwhile, she would rank second behind rising sophomore Evelin Zbisko.

Barry University women’s swimming, which competes in the Division II Sunshine State Conference, begins their third season as a team after being instated as a new sport in 2023.
