Multi-Time Illinois State Champion Parker Chan Commits to WashU for Fall 2025

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Parker Chan of Willowbrook, Illinois, has committed to swim for Washington University in St. Louis beginning in the fall of 2025. A distance specialist, Chan trains year-round with FMC Aquatics under coach Dave Krotiak, and competes for Hinsdale South High School, where he is coached by Elizabeth Walker.

Chan attributes his continued growth in the sport to the mentorship of Adam Cremieux (Rise Aquatic).

He shared the following statement with SwimSwam regarding his commitment:

I am extremely grateful to announce my commitment to swim and study at Washington University in St. Louis! I’d like to thank all of my family, friends and coaches for the support they have given me along the way. Go Bears!!

A two-time Illinois Senior State Champion in the 1650 free (2021 and 2023), Chan is also a four-time Illinois Age Group State Champion in the 13–14 boys division, having won titles in the 1000 free, 200 fly, 100 back, and 100 fly. He previously held the Illinois state age group record in the 50 back and earned top-3 finishes at the Illinois Open Water State Championships in both 2023 and 2024.

In 2024, Chan qualified for Winter Juniors in the 1650 free and Futures Championships in the 1650 free, 500 free, 200 fly, 100 fly, 200 back, 100 back, and 400 IM. He also earned qualifying times for the 2024 Canadian Olympic Trials (long course meters) in the 400 free, 800 free, 1500 free, 200 fly, and 400 IM.

At Hinsdale South, he currently holds varsity records in the 100 back, 100 fly, and 500 free, and is the freshman/sophomore record holder in the 100 back, 100 fly, 500 free, and 200 IM.

This past season, at the 2025 IHSA State Championships, Chan posted a personal-best 4:27.50 for 4th in the 500-yard free championship final. He also reached the 100 back ‘B’ final, touching 12th in 50.62.

One week later at Illinois Senior Championships, Chan clocked a crucial 23.43 lead-off on FMC Aquatics’ gold medal-winning 200 medley relay. He also helped the team to 3rd (800 free relay) and 4th (400 free relay) place performances in two additional relays. Individually, he swam the 200 free (1:40.68), 200 fly (1:55.57), and 400 IM (4:13.12) but scratched each of the finals after prelims.

Chan closed out his short course season at the NCSA Spring Championships, recording a lifetime-best 9:14.73 to place 12th in the 1000 free final. He also returned to finals in the 500 free, hitting the wall 19th in 4:31.04.

Top SCY Times:

  • 200 Freestyle: 1:40.43
  • 500 Freestyle: 4:27.50
  • 1650 Freestyle: 15:44.74
  • 100 Backstroke: 50.26
  • 200 Backstroke: 1:52.63
  • 200 Butterfly: 1:49.70

Chan will make an immediate impact for the Bears when he arrives on campus this fall. His career best of 4:27.50 in the 500 free would have ranked second on the team this past season, just behind graduating senior Jeffrey Forbes, who posted a 4:27.05 to place third at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships, the conference in which the Bears compete, before finishing 17th at the NCAA Division III Championships.

Chan also holds team top-three times in the 100 back, 200 fly, and 1650 free. His best in the 500 free would have qualified for the ‘A’ final at the NCAA Division III Championships, positioning him as both a conference medal contender and a likely national scorer before even beginning his collegiate career.

Under the direction of long-time head coach Brad Shively, the WashU men finished 5th out of 8 teams at the 2025 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships.

With his commitment, Chan joins Jackson Heether, Hunter Hua, Alex Nguyen, Kevin Raghunathan, Eli Wichman, Gavin Coggan, Ethan Nus, and Aara Parseghian in WashU’s class of 2029.

I see the argument for it, but I feel like Tenzin Wangpo is just leagues above all other recruits.
