Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Breaststroke specialist Shea Skarda has committed to continue his academic and swimming career at Texas Christian University beginning in the fall of 2025. A senior at O’Dea High School in Washington, Skarda competes for the Seattle Metropolitan Aquatic Club.
Shea is the younger brother of Jack Skarda, a freshman breast and IM swimmer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After previously focusing on baseball and football, Shea has fully embraced swimming as his true passion. Outside the pool, he enjoys wake surfing and especially golf, his favorite hobby. When he is not training, he is often on the golf course, wearing a TCU hat and working on his game.
I am thrilled to announce my commitment to swim and study at Texas Christian University! Huge thanks to Coach Tommy Cunningham and the SMAC coaches for all they have done for me. Thank you to the amazing TCU coaching staff for giving me this opportunity. I’m grateful for my family and friends for their unwavering support. Lastly, I would like to highlight my faith in Jesus Christ, which has guided me every step of the way. Excited for this next chapter!
Skarda competed at the Winter Junior Championships this past December, where he placed 15th in the 100 breast with a time of 54.77. He had set a lifetime best of 54.75 in prelims and later split 54.07 on the 100 breast leg of the 400 medley relay, helping his team to a 5th-place finish. In the 200 breast prelims, he clocked 2:00.86 for 25th.
He went on to lower his 100 breast time to 54.68 the following week at the Juniors PN Washington State Senior Championships. His top 200 breast time of 2:00.03 came in May 2024 at the Juniors PN SRST Pacific Coast Invitational.
At the 2025 WIAA Boys 3A State Championships in February, Skarda claimed the state title in the 100 breast with a near career-best 54.72. He also placed 4th in the 200 IM, posting a personal best of 1:52.70. In the 200 free relay, he split 21.88 to help his team to 4th.
Top SCY Times:
- 100 Breaststroke: 54.68
- 200 Breaststroke: 2:00.03
- 200 IM: 1:52.70
TCU finished 4th at the 2025 Men’s Big 12 Championships, a slight drop from their 2nd-place showing the previous year. The shift came as new teams, including Arizona State, joined the conference. Arizona State dominated the meet, finishing more than 600 points ahead of 2nd-place Arizona. The standings shakeup followed Texas’s departure for the Southeastern Conference after the 2024 season.
The Big 12 Championships score the top 24 swimmers, with B and C finals contested. Skarda’s lifetime bests would have ranked him 18th in the 100 breast and 22nd in the 200 breast after prelims this year, qualifying him for the ‘C’ final in both events. He enters as a freshman with immediate scoring potential.
Skarda will add depth to TCU’s already competitive breaststroke group. During the 2024–25 season, the Frogs were led in the 100 breast by senior Jadon Wuilliez (51.84), followed by sophomores Guilherme Camossato (53.13) and Nikola Koltin (53.60), with senior Felipe Goncalves (53.93) also contributing. With Wuilliez and Goncalves graduating, and Camossato off the roster, Skarda could step into a key role and potentially compete with Koltin for the medley relay spots.
In the 200 breast, Goncalves led the team with a 1:54.75, followed by Camossato (1:54.91), senior Geremia Freri (1:56.23), Koltin (1:57.42), and senior Tristan McFarland (1:58.74).
Skarda will join Isaac Carr, Deacon Gutshall, Quint Erwin, and Braedon Ando as part of TCU’s 2025 recruiting class.
