Psych Sheets
The initial psych sheets for the 2025 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships have dropped ahead of the championships that begin next Tuesday.
This first draft of the psych sheets is before teams are required to cut down to their entry list to 22 athletes, with swimmers and divers each counting as one roster spot.
In total, 84 swimmers and divers will need to be dropped from this first list to get teams under their entry limits; that sheet will be released on Monday.
Swimmers are also over-entered, leaving their exact entries up-in-the-air as well. For example, Josh Liendo is entered in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 fly, and 200 fly. In past years, the three shorter events have been his lineup, but he did swim the first three 200 yard flys of his career in November, including at the team’s mid-season Georgia Invitational.
There are a few small clues. Texas newcomer Rex Maurer, who broke the American Record in the 500 free, is entered in the 500 free, 1650 free, 400 IM, and 200 back. That means he won’t swim the 200 free or 200 IM, both races in which he ranks 4th in the conference this season.
Georgia’s Jake Magahey has four entries: the 200 free, 500 free, 200 fly, and 400 IM, which he’s still not going back to the 1650 free that he last swam for a 3rd place finish at NCAAs in the 2022-2023 season.
There’s one pretty notable name absent: Tennessee All-American breaststroker Emelie Fast, who hasn’t raced since the mid-season Tennessee Invitational. The All-American, who was 7th in the 200 breast at last year’s NCAA Championship meet, 2nd at SECs last year in the 200 breast, and 3rd at SECs last year in the 100 breast, was spotted on deck in an arm brace earlier in the semester. Her times from mid-season (58.41 100 breast) would already qualify her for the NCAA Championships, so that doesn’t necessarily mean her season is over.
Tennessee is still loaded in breaststroke races, including freshman McKenzie Siroky, the 3rd seed in the 100; and the defending Olympic bronze medalist in the 100 Mona McSharry, who skipped the fall semester but has been rounding back into form this season.
Sans Robert Finke, American Distance Swimming is a CYCLE RATE CIRCUS! When was the last time a Yankee made international final who wasn’t bobbert fink? Keep focusing on the PAPA Smurf 1650 event and let the stars of Europe and Africa reap their well deserved medals…
Happy to see Kyle Peck made the grade with TX.
I wonder if Hubi will opt for the 100 fly here instead of the 100 back. Or perhaps instead of the 200 back, leaving it for NC’s.
I’m not sure why it hasn’t been discussed more, but I think he could do 100 fly, 100 back, 200 back and opt out of the 200 IM (at least for conference). Imo second most likely lineup to 200 IM/100 back/200 back
Interesting, I always thought the 200IM was the one he was going to keep for both meets. Not as much competition as the sprints and it’s early on. Plus it’s the one event in which he is fastest this season.
Looks like Texas had to bump from the roster:
a freshman with a 1:43.5 200 IM
a 14:59 miler
multiple guys with 1:34 200 freestyles
And that’s for *conference.* Damn.
Amazing how quickly that depth bounced back.
Do roster limits start next year? Wonder how many of them might look to transfer
All of them. Most have already been cut and are no longer with the team based on Bob’s interviews and other reports. The SEC championship roster size is the same as the roster cap (which makes no sense).
The opening of the transfer portal after NCAAs will be interesting to say the least.
From Bob’s interview, I thought the portal opens before the Men’s championship. That’s why he wanted to cut the guys early so they would have more exposure, if they wanted, in the transfer portal. The portal will be super interesting this year.
All those guys mentioned above have already been cut (the IMer, miler, and 2 of the 1:34 guys). Very sad. The mental health disaster these roster cuts are creating. Definitely should have been grandfatherd in over time. This is not what these guys were promised when they came and I hope there is a major class action lawsuit across the NCAA.
It is sad for the young men, teammates, families and coaches. We all hope those affected will make wise decisions leading to great opportunities.
So Michael Cotter got cut after just transferring in? I figured it would be tight for him to make it, but damn.
All of those guys that go those times have been cut
I’d be very worried if my son has a ‘26 verbal commitment with Texas
Were all those super fast in-season swims because the men were fighting to keep their spots? How can the famous culture Eddie built survive this? It must be brutal.
Moving forward, I guess if you commit to Texas you certainly will know you will be fighting for your roster spot every year. I’m not super in the know with the program or anything, but it does seem like Bob is being very transparent about the roster and how to keep or earn your spot. It does suck, but I think if you choose to go to Texas and swim for Bob you know this is a possibility.
Can’t find the psych sheets, can you share where we might find them here?
There is a big link right at the top of the article
I still don’t see the link for the psych sheet
It’s in red and says PSYCH SHEETS in a red large font. looks like a paragraph header but it’s actually a link
Thank you for this. I overlooked it as well!
Thank you- I was looking for a hyper link which is why I didn’t see it- I’m old!
All good – happens to the best of us!
I think you need to see a doctor
I think you need manners-it wasn’t an obvious hyper link
😳 Click on the big red letters. PSYCHE SHEETS.
Mona needs to get a lot better to be near her best and helping Tenn! She was 1:01 ish vs Georgia a couple weeks ago. Suited
Then she was 1:00.1 a week later.
She’s not where she was at the Olympics obviously, but in the 1:01 she lost her goggles, so probably an anomaly.
