Bronx, N.Y. – (January 25, 2025) – The Fordham women’s swimming & diving team capped the home portion of their schedule on Saturday morning, hosting the La Salle Explorers on Senior Day at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center.

The Rams sent off 29 student-athletes with a dual meet sweep of the Explorers, 181-119 for the women and 195-99 for the men.

For the women, Fordham took first in 13 of 16 events, starting with the 200 medley relay team of Leire MartinEmma ShaughnessyJessica Zebrowski, and Ainhoa Martin posting a winning time of 1:46.49.

The Rams then had five multiple individual event winners with Emilie Krog winning both distance freestyle events in 10:36.46 (1000) and 5:07.67 (500), while L. Martin won both backstroke events in 57.49 seconds (100) and 2:02.71 (200).  Zebrowski then took first in both butterfly events in 2:05.14 (200) and 55.99 seconds (100) with Mya Bokerman taking the top spot in both diving events (1M – 246.45; 3M – 251.48).  A. Martin was the final dual event winner, finishing first in the 200 breaststroke (2:20.68) and the 200 IM (2:08.36)

Additional event winners on Saturday included Shaughnessy in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.11) and Therese Enriquez in the 100 freestyle (54.62).

On the men’s side, Fordham grabbed first place in 11 of 16 events, including both relays.  The 200 medley relay group of Christian TaylorNoah Althoff, Daniel Ribiero, and David Topi posted a winning time of 1:30.94, while the 200 freestyle relay squad of Taylor, Ribiero, Topi, and Althoff had a top time of 1:24.33.

Three men ended up with multiple event wins, starting with Aidan Dane taking both distance freestyle events in 9:57.52 (1000) and 4:50.60 (500).  Taylor then grabbed both backstroke events in 49.92 (100) and 1:53.95 (200), while Dylan Champagne swept in the butterfly events in 1:55.85 (200) and 51.34 seconds (100).

The remaining event wins came from Althoff in the 200 freestyle (1:43.74), Ribiero in the 50 freestyle (21.28), and Daniel Langlois in the 200 IM (1:59.48).

The Rams are next in action on Saturday, February 1st, as they head to UMass for a 1:00 PM meet.

NEW YORK – The La Salle swimming and diving teams competed in their final road meet of the season prior to Atlantic-10 Championships, facing off against Fordham Saturday.

The teams both fell to the hosts, with the men’s team losing by a score of 195-99, while the women’s team lost 181-119.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Gabrysia Herbreder won the women’s 200-yard free with a time of 1:56.68.
  • Andrea Savoca picked up the men’s first win of the day in the 100-yard breast, finishing in 57.49 seconds.
  • Tori Fenn edged out Fordham’s best swimmer in the 50-yard free, winning by a hundredth of a second.
  • Carter Perkins won the 100-yard free with a time of 46.46.
  • Savoca notched his second win of the afternoon in the 200-yard breast, completing it in 2:07.69.
  • In the final women’s event of the day, the squad of Emma Van Selm, Herbreder, Maren Schermerhorn, and Fenn took gold in the 200-yard free relay, getting a time of 1:37.32.
  • On the diving side, Carter Randall won both men’s diving events. Bryce Peterson got second in the one-meter event, and Liam Cahill placed third in the one-meter event and runner-up in the three-meter event.
  • Tiffany Brawn got runner-up in both women’s diving events.

UP NEXT

  • The Explorers return home for its final meet of the season at Kirk Pool next weekend, facing off against Monmouth on Saturday, Feb. 1. The meet, which will honor the teams’ seniors is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.
