GOLDEN, Colo. (1/20/25) – The University of Wyoming swimming and diving teams soared past Colorado School of Mines on Monday.

The Cowgirls outscored the Orediggers 140-60, and the Cowboys were also victorious with a score of 113-90.

The Cowgirls zoomed past their competition, having taken first-place in 10 out of the 11 events of the day, along with an additional 9 top three finishes. The Cowboys had the first-place finisher in 7 out of 11 events, as well as 11 more finishes in the top three.

On the women’s side, Ellie FritscherSydney Metzler and Rachael Horne had multiple first-place performances. For the men, Griffith OrloffKellen Chadderdon and Gavin Smith were the multiple-event winners.

The Pokes next compete against conference foes UNLV in Las Vegas, Nevada on Jan. 24-25.

GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines closed out its regular season with some standout performances as they hosted Wyoming on Monday.

In a sprint-heavy meet format, the Oredigger men were neck-and-neck with Wyoming all afternoon, edged 113-90 by the Cowboys, while the Cowgirls took the women’s meet 140-60. Mines had a combined five event wins on the day.

The men started out their meet with a strong win in the 400 medley relay as Jakson WinnJoe HutchinsonLuca Burns, and Michael Kietzman put together a 3:25.67 time, and Mines also won the 400-free relay as Kietzman, Sawyer JonesVladislav Kazakin, and Winn finished in 3:07.03. Individually, Kazakin won the 200-free in 1:43.99, and Winn would go on to take first in the 50-back (24.39).

Mines had a number of runner-up spots against their D-I competition including Hutchinson in the 50-breast (27.27), Maximus Waring in the 200-fly (1:57.61), Kietzman in the 50-fly (23.49), and Ronan Lauinger in the 200-breast (2:10.00) and 100-IM (53.31). The 200-free relay of Jones, Brenden Cook, Kietzman, and Winn clocked 1:25.06 in a close finish with the Cowboys.

The women’s meet was highlighted by Sophia Buhr’s win in the 200-fly as she hit the wall in 2:12.80. Mines had four second-place event finishes including Jordan Tierney, who clocked 30.26 – only four-hundredth off the leader – for second in the 50-breaststroke, Eden Addison in the 200-back (2:12.34), Ava Burger in the 200-breast (2:29.28), and Kylie VanderMeer in the 50-fly (26.47).

Maggie Wells led Mines in the 200-freestyle (3rd, 2:00.09), Kerrigan Hemp was third in the 50-back (29.61), and Burger was third in the 100-IM (1:01.65).

The women’s 400-medley relay (Hemp, Tierney, VanderMeer, Pierson) took second timing 3:58.37 and the Orediggers’ top 200-free relay (Jennifer Pierson, VanderMeer, Tierney, Sophia Cristal) touched in 1:38.75 for third. The 400-free relay of Pierson, VanderMeer, Cristal, and Maggie Wells was third in 3:36.02.
