RENO, Nev. – Nevada Swimming & Diving sent its seven seniors off in victorious fashion in their final meet at Lombardi Pool Friday, defeating UNLV, 140-101.
With the win, Nevada improved to 5-0 in dual meets this season and takes the inside track on capturing the important three points in the swimming & diving competition of the Silver Stat Series presented by America First Credit Union. A higher finish at February 19-22’s Mountain West Championships would clinch the three points for the Wolf Pack.
Seniors Anslee Dickerson, Lucia Gabino, Noelle Harvey, Riley Parker, Abby Parks, Yasmin Perry, and Caitlin Smith were honored in a pre-meet ceremony.
Friday’s meet was highlighted by sophomore Scarlett Ferris breaking a 24-year-old school record in the 50 Free, clocking 22.65 to take the top spot by one-hundredth of a second over Jia Lin Sun’s time of 22.66 set in 2000.
Overall, Nevada captured nine of the 13 events in the meet, including both relays. Ferris and Enkhkhuslen Batbayar each had three wins on the day–Ferris being victorious in the 100 back and part of the 200 medley relay in addition to her 50 free win, while Batbayar took the 200 and 500 frees before her anchor leg completed a comeback win in the 400 free relay.
Diver Bailey Heydra swept the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events and Evie Floate was part of both winning relays. Heydra continued her impressive campaign with scores of 306.00 on 1-meter and 352.88 on 3-meter.
The Wolf Pack opened the meet with four-straight wins and victories in five of the first six events to take control. The 200 medley relay of Ferris, Sara Mihalic, Perry, and Floate got Nevada on the board in the opener, and the Wolf Pack got a critical two points as Harvey out-touched UNLV’s “B” relay by 0.27 of a second to take third. Keira-Lee Allott followed by touching in 10:08.51 to out-pace three Rebel swimmers in the 1,000 free.
Batbayar kept the run going with a 1:47.55 to take the 200 free followed by Ferris’ record swim in the 50 free. Parks was right behind Ferris in 23.10 to help the Wolf Pack to an early 65-46 lead.
UNLV cut into Nevada’s lead with a run of swim wins in the 200 IM, 100 fly, and 100 free before Ferris got the Wolf Pack back into form with a nearly three-second victory in the 100 back. Her time of 52.50 was 2.96 seconds ahead of the runner-up, while Molly Von Seggern (56.03) and Parker (57.26) scored with third- and fourth-place finishes, respectively.
Batbayar followed with a 3.34-second win in the 500 free, going 1-2 with Allott (4:57.42). In the 100 breast, the Pack picked up a crucial six points helped by Dickerson’s 1:03.91, her second-fastest career swim. The quartet of Parks, Floate, Harvey, and Batbayar sealed the dual win in the 400 free relay, as Batbayar’s anchor leg chased down UNLV’s Bridget Sullivan over the final 20 yards to send the crowd off on a high note.

RENO, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women’s swimming and diving teams fell 140-101 to in-state rival UNR in the Silver State Series presented by America First Credit Union meet Friday at Lombardi Pool.
Overall, the Rebels won four events and had 17 combined top-3 finishes across the individual and relay races.
THE RUNDOWN:
– Taking the first Rebel victory of the day, freshman Grace Wharton won the 200 IM after reaching the wall with a time of 2:03.64.
– Graduate student Heather Gardner claimed a victory in the 100 breast (1:02.97).
– Adding another Scarlet & Gray win was sophomore Fernanda Mendez Guerra in the 100 fly (53.90).
– Junior Erika Carlson won the 100 free with a time of 50.14 seconds. Additionally, she dashed to a second-place time of 1:48.34 in the 200 free.
– In the 1000 free, sophomore Ava Olson earned a second-place finish (10:11.01), while senior Gina Miller (10:20.92) and junior Hannah Jones (10:24.98) placed third and fourth, respectively.
– Supplying more top-3 finishes, sophomore Dominika Trentkiewicz placed second in the 100 back (55.46), senior Briget Sullivan took third in the 50 free (23.67) and Miller put up a third-place effort in the 500 free (5:00.01).
– In the 1-meter dive, senior Vika Yanovska placed third after scoring a 262.35. Additionally, freshman Allyse Abbott finished in fourth (250.35).
– In the 3-meter dive, Yanovska dove to a second-place score of 304.05 and Abbott landed in fourth (256.65).
– The Rebels’ 400 free relay ‘A’ team of Carlson, senior Pilar Cohen, Mendez Guerra and Sullivan teamed up for a second-place time of 3:22.19.
– The Scarlet & Gray 200 medley relay ‘A’ team of Trentkiewicz, Gardner, Mendez Guerra and Sullivan combined for a second-place finish (1:40.94).
QUOTABLE: “Reno was clearly ready to go today. We had a good meet, but we didn’t have enough to overcome some of their top athletes. We’re ready to get back to work and prepare to come out on top at the conference championships next month.”
