WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross women’s swimming and diving began the home portion of their schedule and dominated nonconference opponent Iona 207-91 Friday evening in the Hart Center Pool.
With the win, the Crusaders knot up their record at 1-1 while the Gaels drop to 3-2 in the early portion of the year.
Freshman diver Brenna Short excelled during the meet qualifying for NCAA Zones on the one meter board with a 286.28 score. She also posted an NCAA Zone cut score of 284.40 on the three meter board.
Junior Ainsley Nalen picked up a pair of individual first place showings in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.04), 500-yard freestyle (5:17.99) and was part of the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:37.62) team which earned first.
Freshman Laura Arciniegas matched Nalen with two individual first place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (59.45), the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.77) and earned first a leg of the 200-yard medley relay (1:48.84).
Junior Nora Smillie had an individual first in the 50-yard freestyle (24.69) and two relay firsts in the 200-yard medley relay (1:48.84) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:37.62). Sophomore Devin Brindle hit the wall first in the 100-yard freestyle (53.83) and had team first in the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle.
Sophomore Kat Anticev earned first place in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:47.72) while classmate Megan Nelson added first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:11.66) as well as newcomer Ellie Reinhart in the 200-yard individual medley (2:13.61).
The Crusaders will compete against Bryant next weekend with the diving events taking place in Worcester on Friday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. and the swimming events following at Bryant on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 10 a.m.

Holy Cross levels their record in dual meets to 1-1 on the campaign while the Gaels fall to 2-2.
Freshman diver Griffin Casey qualified for NCAA Zones twice on the three-meter board (324.30) and the one meter board (316.35), both established new program records.
Junior Zach Bubonovich dominated the meet with a trio of first place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke (58.09), 200-yard breaststroke (2:09.21) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:59.38).
Senior Rory Hess hit the wall first twice in the 200-yard butterfly (1:56.17) and 100-yard butterfly (52.38).
Junior Jack Greiner hit the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.18) with teammate senior Patrick Walsh finishing behind him at 1:46.45.
Sophomore Austin Cutcher took home a first place showing in the 1,000-yard freestyle at 9:49.93.
Holy Cross will compete against Bryant next weekend with the diving events taking place in Worcester on Friday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. and the swimming events following at Bryant on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 10 a.m.

WORCESTER, MA – The Iona Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Team took to the road for their second back-to-back pair of weekend meets this season as they traveled to Worcester, Mass to face the College of Holy Cross dual meet match-up at the Hart Center Pool.
The Crusaders came out strong winning six of the first seven events to roll to respective 207-91 and 171.5-126.5 victories on the women’s and men’s side. The Iona women picked up wins in both the 100 and 200-yard Breaststroke events as graduate student Julia Moser touched first in the 100-yard race at 1:08.15 and Freshman Hailey Baker took the 200-yard race at 2:29.15.
The Iona men grabbed seven wins, with the quartet of Michael Faughnan, Matthew Loftus, Noah Giunta and Nate Wales taking the 200-yard Medley Relay at 1:34.76. Graduate Student, Faughnan went on to win the 100-yard Backstroke at 49.50 and the 500-yard Freestyle at 4:42.75. Sophomore Kieran Egan posted wins in the 50-Free and 200-Back with times of 21.72 and 1:52.96. Sophomore Wales touched first in the 100-Free at 47.78.
Egan, Wales, Harry Platt and Faughnan remained undefeated in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay on the season winning the meets final race at 3:08.18.
The teams travel to Providence for a match-up with the Friars at 11:00am
