Harvard Women’s Swimming and Diving team (3-1 Ivy) added one to the win column in its 202-98 rout of Brown (4-1, 0-1 Ivy) in Cambridge, MA on Saturday.
Harvard got things rolling with a victory in the 200 medley relay with its foursome of Danielle Lee, Sara Li, Kendall Crawford, and Victoria Chan who touched in 1:44.88, comfortably ahead of Brown’s Paige Gilley, Briana Borgolini, Maggie Jordan, and Reia Tong.
Crimson teammates Sherry Liu (9:58.97), Kelsey Hojan-Clark and Willa Wang swept the top three spots in the 1000 free. Brown freshman Megan Viohl was the highest-scoring Bear in the race. Harvard also swept the 200 free, this time with Ashlee Korsberg (1:50.61), Chan, and Margaret Ramsey. Brown’s Elly Vitek finished fourth.
The results were less one-sided in the next several events. Lee of Harvard won the 100 back (54.84), while Brown teammates Gilley and Emma Wyke took second and third, respectively. Brown breaststroker Borgolini won both breast events, beginning with a 1:05.62 finish in the 100. Harvard’s Daniela Johnson was second and Katie Roach of Brown, third. The Bears cut Harvard’s lead with a 1-3 finish in the 200 fly: Gina Matsumoto won in 2:04.86 and Leigh Holmes was third. Finishing between them was Harvard’s Danielle Schulkin.
Harvard sprinter Li scored a win in the 50 free over Brown’s Tong, 23.69 to 24.33. Third place went to Marissa Cominelli of Harvard. In the 100 free, Tong had to settle for fourth, as she was overpowered by Harvard’s Lee (51.15), Chan, and Sarah Sumner.
Harvard racked up more points in the 200 back, taking the top three positions again. This time it was Crawford (2:01.48), Cominelli, and Deidre Clute who scored for the Crimson. Wyke was once more the Bears’ top finisher. Borgolini won her second event for Brown with a 2:21.12 victory in the 200 breast. In a repeat of the shorter distance’s finish, second and third places went to Harvard’s Johnson and Brown’s Roach, respectively.
The Crimson’s mid-distance strength was on display in the 500 free as Korsberg (4:53.62), Ramsey and Marlee Ehrlich went 1-2-3. Brown’s Viohl came in fourth.
Courtney Otto of Harvard won the day’s closest race, the 100 fly, in which the top three hit the wall together. Otto (57.17) came out on top; Brown’s Leigh Holmes (57.56) took second just ahead of Harvard’s Ana Anaya (57.96). The final individual event, 200 IM, was another sixteen-pointer for Harvard, with Lee (2:06.73), Otto, and Faith Martin all getting to the wall before Brown’s Caroline Vexler.
Brown won the 200 free relay with Tong, Emma Lamothe, Megan Nolet, and Gilley (1:37.94). Harvard’s quartet consisted of Johnson, Shori Hijikata, Liu, and Ramsey.
Harvard divers swept both diving events. In the three-meter competition, it was Brittany Wang (297.16), Elina Leiviska, and Schuyler Moore all finishing ahead of fourth-place Molly Gelb of Brown. The one-meter featured Harvard’s Alex Stanton squeaking out a first (by .04!) over Leiviska. Moore and Gelb took third and fourth again.
