NCAA ‘A’ Finalists Owen Lloyd And Luke Miller Returning to NC State For COVID 5th Years

Owen Lloyd and Luke Miller will return to NC State to use their COVID-19 fifth years, the school roster shows. Lloyd scored in the top 8 of the 1650 free this past season while Miller was in the ‘A’ final of the 100 fly.

Lloyd finished his freshman and sophomore seasons at last chance meets. He notably made the cutline for 2022 NCAAs as a sophomore but was unable to swim at NCAAs due to the roster limit of 18 athletes. Instead, he sat in the stands in the red Among Us costume.

He swam at ACCs as a junior, finishing 3rd in the 400 IM (3:42.16), 5th in the 1650 free (14:50.21), and 8th in the 500 free (4:19.75). All three swims were personal best times. He went on to swim at NCAAs, finishing 11th in the 1650 free in a 14:46.16 to score 6 points.

At ACCs this past year, Lloyd touched first in the 1650 freestyle but was ultimately disqualified after celebrating on the lane line and falling into another lane before all of the swimmers had finished in the heat. He also finished 3rd in the 500 free and 3rd in the 400 IM.

He swam all three events at NCAAs, scoring in the 1650 free with a 5th place finish touching in a 14:39.18. He also was 24th in the 400 IM and 43rd in the 500 free. He scored 14 individual points, the 5th most on the team.

Miller also returns for the Wolfpack. He made NCAAs as a freshman, scoring in the 200 free with a 15th place finish. He also swam on two relays in 2021.

He won the 200 free ACC title as a sophomore, swimming a 1:32.46. He also made the ‘A’ final of the 100 free and won the ‘B’ final of the 200 fly. He went on to finish 4th in the 200 free at 2022 NCAAs swimming a 1:31.16 and once again was a member of two relays.

As a junior, Miller made the ACC ‘A’ finals of the 100 free, 200 free, and 200 fly. He went on to swim at NCAAs, making the ‘B’ final of the 200 fly with an 11th place finish.

He switched his championship event lineup this past season. His highest finish at ACCs came in the 100 free as he was 2nd in a 41.50. He also was 3rd in the 100 fly and 12th in the 50 free. He only swam in the 100 fly and 100 free at NCAAs as he swam in all five relays as well. He finished 3rd in the 100 fly and 9th in the 100 free to score 24 individual points, the 4th most on the team.

The returns of Lloyd and Miller is huge for the team as they finished 5th at NCAAs this past season but lose their top scorer Kacper Stokowski as he just finished his 5th year.
