A Bay Area, California-based swim coach has been arrested after allegedly sending sexually explicit content to a minor.
Anthony Daly, 28, was arrested in San Mateo, Calif., on July 18 after an investigation by San Jose police revealed he sent inappropriate messages to a female minor between July and September of 2023.
On July 29, he was added to the U.S. Center for SafeSport disciplinary database under “allegations of misconduct” and given a temporary suspension by USA Swimming.
Daly was the victim’s swim coach with the Milpitas Aquatic Club during that time.
Daly was booked into Santa Clara County Jail for “the crime of annoying or molesting a minor,” according to the San Jose Police Department.
Authorities received a report of an adult male suspect sending inappropriate messages to a female minor in January 2024, leading to an investigation being launched by Detectives from the San Jose Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC/Child Exploitation Detail Task Force.
According to an online profile, Daly has been the co-head coach at Milpitas Aquatic Club since July 2021 and spent the two years prior as a coach with Santa Clara Swim Club. He was also the Director of Swimming with The Bay Club Company from 2018 until 2019, and attended Drury University and Cal State Bakersfield as a student-athlete between 2011 and 2015.
He is no longer listed as a coaching staff member on the Milpitas Aquatic Club website.
Without any aggravating factors, annoying or molesting a minor is a misdemeanor that is punishable by up to a year in jail and a $5,000 fine in California law.
