Canadian Olympian Mary-Sophie Harvey & Boyfriend Jerome Heidrich Announce Engagement

Canadian Olympian Mary-Sophie Harvey announced her engagement to Jerome Heidrich via Instagram on July 2.

Harvey, a native of Trois-Rivières, Quebec, Canada, is a two-time Olympian, having qualified for the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games. At the Tokyo Games, she competed in the prelims of the 4×200 freestyle relay, clocking a 1:57.53 split to help the Canadian team qualify for the final. The team finished 4th in the finals.

In 2022, Harvey qualified for her first individual World Championship final in the 200 IM. She finished in 8th place with a time of 2:12.77, following her semifinal time of 2:10.22. She also contributed to the Canadian team’s bronze medal by swimming in the prelims of the 4×200 freestyle relay.

At the 2023 World Championships, Harvey earned a bronze medal swimming the freestyle leg in the prelim of the 4×100 medley relay. She also finished 11th and 19th, respectively, in the 200 IM and 200 freestyle.

At the 2024 Canadian Trials, Harvey qualified for Paris in the 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 4×100 freestyle relay, and 4×200 freestyle relay. She ranks as the 8th fastest performer in the world this year in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:55.44.

In Tokyo, it took a 1:56.58 to make it to the final in the 200 freestyle. Harvey is within range to make her first individual Olympic final.

Jerome Heidrich, a native of Hamburg, Germany, swam collegiately for Wingate University (2014-2016) before transferring to California Baptist (2016-2019) to finish out his collegiate career.

Heidrich, primarily a sprint freestyler, went on to become a first-team CSCAA Scholar All-American, 6-time Division II NCAA finalist, and 6-time conference champion during his college tenure.

Heidrich’s father was a member of the Turkish National Basketball Team, and in the summer of 2015, he decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and start representing Turkey internationally.

At the 2019 European Championships, he swam in the final of the 200 medley relay.

Heidrich now competes professionally and trains with the Mission Viejo Nadadores in California.

Heidrich earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from California Baptist University in 2018 and followed it with a master’s degree in performance psychology in 2019.
