Blair sophomore Ella Lesnever was one of three swimmers to lead prelims of multiple individual events at the 2023 CIF-Southern Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, completing a 50/100 free double with lifetime bests in both events on Thursday.

Lesnever started the prelims session with a 23.92 to lead the 50 free heats, dipping under 24 seconds for the first time. Her previous best was a 24.24 from February. Just a few events later, Lesnever capped her day with a 51.88 in the 100 free, shaving exactly four-tenths off her previous-best 51.88.

Nordhoff junior Quin Seider also heads into the finals as the top seed in multiple events. The Arizona State commit took the top spot in the 50 free (20.58) and 100 free (45.34), both in All-American consideration times. His personal bests in the 50 free and 100 free are 20.50 and 44.44, respectively, from December.

El Modena junior Grace Wharton showed off her versatility by leading prelims of both the 500 free (4:59.61) and 100 back (57.59). She was about seven seconds off her lifetime best in the 500 free and two seconds off her best time in the 100 back.

There were also a handful of impressive prelims-leading performances courtesy of freshmen on Thursday. Costa Mesa freshman Avrum Xagorarakis had the top time in the 100 butterfly heats with a 49.89, dropping more than half a second off his previous best from December. Xagorarakis also qualified second in the 500 free (4:38.46).

Xavier Prep freshman Ava Otteson led the 200 free heats (1:51.89) while also qualifying second in 100 free (52.42) less than a second behind Lesnever. Whitney freshman Raphaela Flores led the way in the 200 IM prelims with a 2:13.26, and Palos Verdes freshman Hillary Nguyen paced the 100 breast heats with a 1:07.11.
