WASHINGTON – GW swimming and diving defeated Georgetown, 133-108 (men’s) and 143-92 (women’s), Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Pool. The Colonials extended their win streak over Georgetown to six, having won each meeting against the Hoyas since the 2015-16 season.
The Buff and Blue started out red-hot, winning the first seven events, and went on to 20 of 26 events, including the women going a perfect 13-for-13. GW shattered five pool records (men’s 400-medley relay, men’s 100-yard backstroke, women’s 200-yard backstroke, women’s 400-yard IM, women’s 3-meter dive) on the way to its second dual meet victory of 2023.
Women’s Highlights:

Marlee Rickert, Ava DeAngelis, Barbara Schaal and Grace Olivardia took first place (3:52.30) in the 400-yard medley relay, earning full points to kick-off the meet.

GW had the top-three finishes in the 1000-yard freestyle. Ava Topolewski paced the group (10:14.57) and won her second 1000-yard freestyle in as many meets. Molly Smyers and Taylor Bernosky followed behind and took second (10:22.45) and third (10:29.48), respectively.

First-year Phoebe Wright won both of her individual events and set a pool record. Wright began by taking first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.16), beating out teammate Siena Senn (1:54.71) by just under two seconds. She then took first (2:01.90) in the 200-yard backstroke by over six seconds and set a McCarthy Pool record in the event.

Sophomore Julia Knox broke the pool record in the 400-yard IM after taking first place (4:23.88) by almost eight seconds.

First-year Olivia Paqutte took first place (301.88) in the three-meter dive and set a pool record while doing so. Dara Reyblat and Jamie Doak finished in second (248.03) and third (244.43).

Doak won (258.30) the one-meter dive, followed by Paquette in second (256.80).

Schaal won two individual races. She finished first in the 50-yard freestyle (24.73), followed closely by Becca Brown in second (24.89), before beating out the competition in the 100-yard freestyle (53.25).

In the 200-yard butterfly, Smyers nabbed first (2:04.33) and Topolewski took second (2:05.17).

Topolewski won (4:59.84) her second individual race in the 500-yard freestyle, edging out the victory by .33 seconds over Knox, who finished in second (5:00.17).

DeAngelis took first place (2:20.77) in the 200-yard breaststroke, an event she won last weekend.

Rickert, Wright, Olivardia and Brown put a bow on the meet with a first-place performance (3:32.52) in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Men’s Highlights:

The men started off the meet by breaking a pair of pool records in the 400-yard medley relay. Karol Mlynarczyk, Bode Ringenbach, Djurdje Matic and Dylan Koo took first place (3:20.68) and the pool record for the 400-yard medley relay, while Mlynaczyk set the pool record in the 100-yard backstroke (48.12) in the first leg of the relay.

GW finished with the top-three 1000-yard freestyle times. Philip Moldovanu won the race (9:32.66), while Brendan Conley took second (9:43.96) and Zach Hu took third (9:47.33).

Marek Osina led the way (1:42.97) as GW swept the podium in the 200-yard freestyle. Osina was followed by Daniel Nagy in second (1:43.24) and Oscar Madsen in third (1:45.19).

For the second meet in a row, Nagy took first place in the 200-yard butterfly (1:51.07).

Ryan Patterson, Mlynarczyk and Ganesh Sivaramakrishnan completed the podium sweep in the 200-yard backstroke. Patterson led the group (1:50.82) and cut over two seconds off his time from last weekend, while Mlynarczyk took second (1:52.43) and Sivaramakrishnan secured third (1:54.23).

Moldovanu and Mikhail Lyubavskiy finished in first (4:39.06) and second place (4:39.51) in the 500-yard freestyle, respectively. It is the second-consecutive meet that Moldovanu took first place in the event.

Matic, Dylan Koo, Sivaramakrishnan and Tyler Kawakami won (3:06.37) the 400-yard freestyle in the final event of the meet.
Up Next:
The Buff and Blue are off until February 3-5, when they head to Charlottesville, Va. for the Cavalier Invite, hosted by UVA.

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams both fell to George Washington University at McCarthy Pool on Saturday afternoon. The women fell 143-92 while the men dropped a 133-108 decision.
“We had a great day honoring our seniors,” said Head Coach Jack Leavitt. “Our 14 seniors have left a great impact on this program. We are looking forward to taking on Seton Hall next week and preparing for the BIG EAST Championships.”
WOMEN’S HIGHLIGHTS
- Allie Sanchez, Alex Breuer, Bella Wylie and Genevieve Youngman finished second in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:55.57.
- Erin Hood added a second-place finish in the 400 IM clocking 4:31.86.
- Wylie earned a second-place finish with a time of 53.67 in the 100 free.
- Sanchez finished second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:07.13.
- Emilie Ginovker picked up a third place finish in the 1m dive with a score of 222.75.
MEN’S HIGHLIGHTS
- Michael Baldini (21.45) captured a first-place finish in the 50 free followed by Connor Brennan (21.73) who finished third. Baldinin also earned a first-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 46.51.
- Jack Brearton and Tomo Nozaki went 1-2 in the 400 IM clocking times of 4:02.43 and 4:04.08, respectively.
- Stephen Kim (2:04.66), Nozaki (2:06.28) and Nick Pezzella (2:07.06) finished 1-2-3 in the 100 breaststroke.
- The senior squad of Baldini, Sean Percin, Andrew Babyak and Josiah Lauver earned a second-place finish in the 400 free relay with a time of 2:07.20.
- Charles Reichle (302.18) and Kyle Maziarz (292.13) took first and second in the 3m dive. Reichle (280.95) claimed first in the 1m dive while Tristan Gess (262.05) followed in second.

The Hoyas will travel to South Orange, New Jersey on January 28 to take on BIG EAST foe Seton Hall.
