Claire Armstrong, a senior at Seton Catholic Prep in Arizona, has committed to St. Thomas University in Florida.
“I am so blessed and excited to announce my verbal commitment to St. Thomas University! This school and team is everything and more of what I was looking for in my college search! I love the passion that the team has for this sport and the feeling of family on the team! I am so beyond thankful for all my supporters throughout my journey. I want to especially thank my family, coaches and close friends through my swim career. I cant wait to be a part of the Bobcat family, and I cant wait to see what the next 4 holds for me. Armstrong swam at the 2021 Arizona Division 3 High School State Championship, for small schools, where she finished third in the 100 fly. She also swims club for Mesa Aquatics Club. At the 2021 Arizona Senior Long Course Championship, she placed in the top 20 as part of the 200m medley relay and the 400m free relay.
Armstrong’s fastest short-course yards times are:
- 50 free: 26.74
- 500 free: 6:15.03
- 100 back: 1:12.27
- 100 fly: 1:00.12
St. Thomas University is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The women’s swimming and diving team at St. Thomas is new and is competing in its first conference and national championships this year. St. Thomas competes in the Sun Conference.
Armstrong will join a young team, where 14 out of the 18 swimmers are currently freshmen. Currently, St. Thomas’ standout is Mikayla DePover, a transfer from Valparaiso who specializes in breaststroke and butterfly.
So far, Armstrong is the team’s first announced recruit for 2022.
