Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Abigail Tomlinson, a USA Swimming Futures Qualifier in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, has committed to East Carolina University.

This school has a great mix of academic and athletic training and the team is so enthusiastic. I felt like it would be a great fit for me.”

Tomlinson graduated in 2021 from Apex Friendship High School in North Carolina, and she is currently taking a gap year. She’s set to join ECU in the fall of 2022.

Tomlinson swims for the TAC Titans. At the 2021 TAC Titans Spring Invite, she placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke. She also swam at the 2021 Speedo ESSZ Spring Short Course Championship in March. There, she placed twelfth in the 100 breast, and in the top 30 in the 200 breaststroke.

Her best short-course yards times are:

  • 50 freestyle: 24.75
  • 100 breaststroke: 1:04.33
  • 200 breaststroke: 2:21.71
  • 100 fly: 58.30
  • 200 IM: 2:10.17

ECU is a member of the American Athletic Conference. This season, the women’s team was reinstated after being cut due to budget restraints. The last time ECU participated in conference championships was in 2020, where the women placed fourth out of six teams. At that meet, Tomlinson would’ve made the B final in the 100 and 200 breast.

Out of 15 athletes, there are currently three breaststrokers on the team. Two of the three–Grace Weed and Rachel Gibson–are currently freshmen, so Tomlinson will have the opportunity to help build the breaststroke team when she joins in the fall.

Tomlinson is part of a class of 12 recruits for the fall of 2022.

“We’ve been talking with Abigail for quite some time. She comes from one of the top programs in the country,” said head Coach Matthew Jabs in a news release. “She is around elite talent and coaching every day and sees what it takes to be successful in our sport. She is a strong athlete who has a great deal of potential. She’ll be joining a deep breaststroke group and will have a good opportunity to turn into something special as her career progresses.”
