Pitt Hires Former Gopher All-American Stacy Busack

The Pitt Panthers have hired Stacy Busack as their new assistant coach for their men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams, head coach Chuck Knoles announced on Tuesday.

Busack boasts an impressive resume as a swimmer (there has been a run on coaches of her ilk this off-season: women who were once highly-credentialed swimmers of their own right), including 13 All-American awards at the University of Minnesota from 2005-2009. She’s also the Big Ten Record holder in the 100 yard freestyle with a 48.08 from her senior year, and was also a 1:45.6 in the 200 yard freesyle.

Busack’s prior coaching experience comes in the form of spending four years as a volunteer assistant at Minnesota while working as an Age Group Coach for the Twin Cities Swim Team, specifically working with the 10-14 age group.

“I am really excited. When Chuck offered me the position, I told him I was hoping for his call because I think Pitt is a great school and they have a great program,” Busack said. “I am excited to be a part of the program and help it grow and build upon the tradition that has been established, especially moving to the ACC.”

Busack alludes above to the fact that next season, Pitt will be spending their first season in the ACC after being members of the Big East since 1982. The level of competition should increase drastically in their new conference.

Busack will take the spot of Kristin Cihoski, who left Pitt after one season to take a club coaching position in Perth, Western Australia.
