NEW HAVEN, Connecticut – Marist men’s swimming & diving won its fourth straight dual meet on Friday afternoon, taking down non-conference foe Southern Connecticut State by a score of 193.5-104.5. It is now nearing three months since the Red Foxes last lost a dual meet.

With the win, Marist improves to 10-2 overall on the season, remaining 4-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference meets. Meanwhile, SCSU drops to 2-4 overall on the year.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The men’s team opened with a first-place victory in the 200-yard medley relay. The team consisting of Ahmed SallamJackson KlarsfeldPavel Makarchuk, and Michael O’Donovan clocked in at 1:35.53
  • Adam Kapusta was once again the star of the men’s side, following up last week’s award-worthy performance with another outstanding day today. He started things off for the men by winning the 1000-yard free with a time of 9:39.59. He then showed his versatility by securing first in the 200-yard back (1:53.19), as well as the 400-yard IM (4:09.38).
  • Murray Coueslant had a solid all-around performance in today’s meet, highlighted by a first-place finish in the 200-yard free (1:43.91). He also muscled up second place finishes in the 200-yard butterfly and the 100-yard butterfly.
  • Sallam continued his impressive performance in free style events, taking first in the 100-yard free with a time of 46.83. He also came in second in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:44.00
  • David Gallino stepped up in the absence of Raislan Aiken, sweeping both diving events. He cruised to a 20-point margin of victory in the 1-meter dive, scoring 253.28. Then in the 1-meter dive, he snuck out a two-point victory (over teammate Tyler Wenzel) with a score of 161.25.
  • Other first place finishes in the meet included Ante Dany (50-yard free – 22.46), Klarsfeld (200-yard breast – 2:11.10), O’Donovan (500-yard free – 4:45.26), and Makarchuk (100-yard butterfly – 51.17).

The Red Foxes return to Poughkeepsie for their final home meet of the 2019-20 season on Saturday, January 25. Marist will host Bryant beginning at 11 a.m. This meet will also serve as senior day for all four Marist teams.

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut – Marist women’s swimming & diving ended its losing streak at just one meet with a 187-107 victory over the Southern Connecticut State Owls on Friday afternoon. The Red Foxes head into their final dual meet of the season next week having now won three of their last four dual meet competitions of the year.

With the win, Marist improves to 8-4 overall on the season, remaining 4-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference meets. Meanwhile, SCSU drops to 3-4 overall on the year.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The women’s team opened with a first-place victory in the 200-yard medley relay. The team consisting of Juliet NowakGeorgeanne ZimmermanLeigh-Anne Zanella, And Megan Lasto clocked in at 1:52.66
  • Sidney Judson won the first individual event of the day, finishing with a time of 10:47.59 in the 1000-yard free. She also went on to win the 500-yard free with a time of 5:19.21.
  • Emma Butzler also had a fantastic meet, winning two individual events for Marist. She first won the 200-yard free with a time of 1:59.03, and then went on to win the 100-yard free with a time of 55.22.
  • Zimmerman was the third of three Red Foxes to win two different swimming events, adding to her solid season. She won the 100-yard breast with a time of 1:09.77, and then would win the 50-yard free with a time of 25.42.
  • Grace Reeves on the task of replacing Esabelle Gervasio, and she did not disappoint. Reeves swept both diving events, scoring 233.63 points in the 3-meter dive, and then scoring 169.20 in the 1-meter dive.
  • The Red Foxes closed out the meet by finishing in first in the 200-yard free relay. The team consisting of Molly Hewett, Judson, Jordyn Deubel, and Butzler clocked in at 1:43.13.
  • Other first place finishes in the meet included Hewett (100-yard back – 1:00.59) and Deubel (400-yard IM – 4:40.26).

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Southern Connecticut State University women’s swimming & diving team lost to Marist, 193.50-104.50, in a non-conference matchup at Bruce Hutchinson Natatorium in New Haven, Conn.

Bailey PetersMatthew Widlar, Leo Laporte  all won for the Owls, while Peters and Laporte teamed with Colby Delia and Tyler Cusano to win the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay.

200 Yard Medley Relay
Southern’s relay team of Chandler TuckerMatthew Widlar, Leo Laporte and Colby Delia tied Marists’ “A” team for first place in the 200 Yard Medley relay with a time of 1:35.53.

1000 Yard Freestyle
Bryce Castellone posted a time of 9:51.23 in the 1000 Yard Freestyle event for second place.

200 Yard Freestyle
Chandler Tucker registered a 1:44.22 in the 200 Yard Freestyle for third place.

100 Yard Backstroke
Peters time in the 100 Yard Backstroke of 55.17 earned him a first-place finish while Timothy Kanaley was second at 55.95.

100 Yard Breaststroke
The Owls posted back-to-back event victories when Widlar took the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:00.90 while Delia was third at 1:01.57.

200 Yard Butterfly
Laporte edged Marist’s top swimming by close to four seconds to win the 200 Yard Butterfly event with at time of 1:52.86. Castellone was fourth with a time of 2:01.94.

50 Yard Freestyle
Tyler Cusano finished the 50 Yard Freestyle in 22.64 for second place while Bailey Peters was fourth at 23.00.

1 Meter Diving, Round 1
Andrew Buehler finished second in the first of two 1 Meter Diving events with a score of 233.78.

100 Yard Freestyle
Laporte followed his win in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a second-place finish in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 47.70.

200 Yard Backstroke
Chandler Tucker was third overall in the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:58.20.

200 Yard Breaststroke
Widlar finished the 200 Yard Breaststroke in 2:12.08 for third place.

500 Yard Freestyle
Bryce Castellone posted his second second-place finish of the the day in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 4:46.71.

100 Yard Butterfly
Fornaciari’s second win of the day came in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 58.72.

1 Meter Diving
Buehler finished third in the second 1 Meter Diving event with a score of 143.25.

400 Yard IM
Chandler Tucker was third in the 400 Yard Individual Medley with a time of 4:21.96.

200 Yard Freestyle Relay
Delia, Laporte, Peters and Cusano won the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:27.46.

Southern is back in action on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020 when it hosts Saint Rose in its final regular-season contest of the 2019-20 season. Prior to the start of the afternoon’s meet, the Owls will recognize John Gaudio, Leonardo Laporte and Scott Moore as part of Senior Day festivities.

Avery Fornaciari won a pair of races as she took the 200 Yard and 100 Yard Butterfly events. Lauren Spencer and Erin Leirey both won events for the Owls, with Spencer taking the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 2:10.49 before Leirey won the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:28.83.

200 Yard Medley Relay
Southern’s “A” relay team of Hannah NyquistErin LeireyAvery Fornaciari and Megan Garner finished second in the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:53.11.

1000 Yard Freestyle
Faith Littleton and Jordan Thompson grabbed the second and third spots, respectively, in the 1000 Yard Freestyle event. Littleton finished in 10:54.18 while Thompson touched at 11:01.47.

200 Yard Freestyle
Alina Tucker was the Owls’ top finisher in the 200 Yard Freestyle event, finishing in third place with a time of 2:00.06. Erin Leirey was close behind at 2:00.67 for fourth place.

100 Yard Backstroke
Morgan Fernald led the Owls the Owls in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a third-place finish in 1:01.11. Olivia Stelevitz was fourth at 1:03.16.

100 Yard Breaststroke
Nicole Cislo placed second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke event with a time of 1:11.51 while Littleton clocked in at 1:12.70 for fourth place.

200 Yard Butterfly
Fornaciari won her first event of the afternoon with a win in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 2:09.01. Hannah Nyquist finished third with a time of 2:14.22.

50 Yard Freestyle
Garner finished third in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 25.93 followed by Strelevitz in fourth at 26.08.

1 Meter Diving, Round 1
Cecilia Vess posted a 179.40 for third place in the first round of the 1 Meter Diving competition.

100 Yard Freestyle
Alina Tucker finished in the third place in the 100 Yard Freestyle event with a time of 55.59. Garner finished in fifth place at 56.80.

200 Yard Backstroke
Lauren Spencer won the 200 Yard Backstroke event with a time of 2:10.49, followed by Hannah Morse in second place at 2:12.44.

200 Yard Breaststroke
Erin Leirey took the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:28.83 while Nicole Cislo was fourth at 2:36.54.

500 Yard Freestyle
Emily Darroch finished in fourth place in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:31.00.

100 Yard Butterfly
Fornaciari’s second win of the day came in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 58.72.

1 Meter Diving
Vess posted a 136.73 in the second part of the two-event 1 Meter Diving event.

400 Yard IM
Erin Leirey finished second in the 400 Yard Individual Medley, touching the wall at 4:41.38.

200 Yard Freestyle Relay
The relay team of Morgan FernaldAlina TuckerAvery Fornaciari and Megan Garner finished second in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:44.43.
